I have a 2000 Olds Silhouette. Both the body and engine are in good shape. However, my transmission is throwing codes, PO741, Po742, P1811. Van also has a whining noise and drives until it gets warm and then I have to turn it off and wait for a couple of minutes for it to drive a little farther. I am thinking of getting a tranny from a salvage yard.
I do want to state that the tranny was always maintained and I do want to thank all of you for your all of your help in maintaining all of my automobiles.
The tranny has 276,000 miles on it.

Not treadwrights. I run them on my Cherokee and know quite a few people that do as well.

The older treadwrights will leave the original markings on - the newer ones will say treadwright and have the size listed on the side.

Sounds like your transmission has given you a good long run. My personal opinion is to have it rebuilt; although a replacement is less expensive, you can't be sure what you are getting.

I believe that van has the 4T65E transmission in it. It can be a good transmission but there are a few known issues, especially on ones around that model year. Because of this I would be hesitant to put in a junkyard unit since they may have the same issues or be close to it.

If you can't find a competent transmission shop locally you might consider tripleedgeperformace.com and see if their Basix line will be a good choice. If anything their website is worth looking at regarding that transmission. 276k miles is pretty good though, so I'd be happy with it. The issue may be whether it's worth investing around $2k in it now.

RockAuto has the reman trans for $1656 + core + shipping - 5%. I would go that route.

With a reman they always replace certain parts regardless and they do not need to reman every transmission. If one is too beat, they can pass on it and scrap it.

Triple Edge Basix, no core, no shipping as opposed to their other lines. I don't have any experience with them but Dave and his shop have an excellent reputation.
