I've cleaned my trans filter screen on a couple of different vehicles and never found a problem that was worth the large effort it takes to remove the pan etc. I was wondering if anyone can comment from experience on an externel spin-on type filter that I could mount in-line on the cooling lines. Is this advisable? Is this possible?

You can buy kits to run a spin on filter in your tranny line. Check Summitracing.com, Jegs.com, or JCwhitney. I don't know how much it helps. There was some discussion a while back. Not sure if on this site. But there was an idea that a lot of the dirt that gets filtered from your crankcase found its way in through the air intake. They went on that since there is no air intake on a tranny, maybe the extra filtration is not needed. Probably can't hurt though, but you still would need the screen I think. It really is a shame that manufacturers didn't get rid of the screen for a spin on filter and add a drain plug.

I plan on adding one myself. Maybe two.

Sure, there won't be alot of dirt in there, but still more than the stock screen will get. You wouldn't need to change the filter very often at all.

If you want to keep your Transmission fluid 100%
Polished clean 100% of the time, install A Frantz or a Gulf Coast bypass toilet paper filter..
