Tranny fluid for power steering fluid?

Lubegard powersteering supplement makes a difference you can feel. I'd use Lubegard steering fluid in any unit that did not call for ATF--or one that did. If you use ATF, why not use a synthetic...it'll handle heat and cold better and oxidize more slowly. One quart doesn't cost that much more.

The VW dealer specified that my 1998 A3 needed the stuff in the WHITE can with ggreen lettering, not the opposite. I don't know the difference.

I know old Citroens would leak a LOT if you replaced the Citroen fluid with ATF.

My '98 Chev K1500 specifies gm power steering fluid.

Funny thing is, it is a Saginaw unit (the one that looks like a "canned ham" or "Spam" reservior). They've (Ford and Chevy) have been using saginaw power steering pumps for decades. As far as I know, they've always called for ATF.

I doubt if anything has changed.

After reading what happened to antifreeze I wasn't sure of anything to do with aftermarket fluids anymore. I had squeal on my 03 Hundayi and drained the filler tank looked in the owners manual and it said use PSF-3.

The Valvoline synthetic fluid I have been useing said nothing on the bottle except do not use in a HONDA.

I called their hotline and she said it is ok to use on your Hyundai. She never heard of PSF-3

So I filled it up with the Valvoline. Then I looked in the 03 Toyota manual and it said use Dextron II or III. With out making a call on why the PS steering started squealing on my new Hyundai I added a oz or so of ARX to it last year. So perhaps it needed to be drained out, anyway it works fine now. In defense of ARX I did overfill it a little by doing that.

I just wondered what they will change next BRAKE Fluid!

I've got AMSOIL Universal Synthetic ATF in my PS unit with a dash of AUTO-RX on Frank's recommendations. Been fine for at least a year now.
