I agree, you don't want to starve the fluid out while doing this process, but as long as oil is pumping out, you have not starved it. This is the reason for having someone in the vehicle to cut it off as soon as you seen new fluid coming out or if fluid isn't flowing out, then cut off. Keep adding, then restart. I haven't seen any starve if you keep adding through a full funnel of oil, but it's possible.

can i just stick in the return hose into the new bottle of fluid and let it take it into the tranny and then take the other hose into a bucket? or would it be more efficient if i just filled it though the dipstick?

heheh today i power washed my drain bolt in hopes that it can come loose...lol i didnt know it was gold....well imma do it today, wish me luck...once again thanks

took another wack at the drain bolt, hehe no good. i tried to access my cooler lines but there is no way i can get through them from the bottom of the car. i can get through them from the top but i need a tube to connect it so that i can put it in a drain pan. err back to the drawing board..hehe at least i got to wash my car, and wax it today

This might be a time for "let the dealer do it". Call several local dealers for the price of a trans fluid change. My local one has a coupon for about $40. But they gouge on many things so I try to never go there. I think I bought a fussy finicky fragile vehicle when I thought I was paying for a reliable one. Maybe it will be loose enough next time for you to do the job. I don't know what year your vehicle is, but my 02 Honda has a trans drain bolt which has a sunken square in it. It is loosened by the square drive of a socket wrench with no socket on it.

i got the same type of bolt u have an i have conciderd taking it into the shop. but on the coupon it said "we have the right to charge you for any extra labor we do" and really i bet if they try and take off the bolt and cant, they will charge me extra. it is an option that i am concidering though. perhaps for the summer time. since honda uses their own OEM fluid ATF Z1 and costs hecka much for the bottles alone and they do 2 drain and refils...thats basically a 60 dollar job by myself and they give it to me for 30 bucks...heeh done deal.

I had a 96 Accord. Getting that drain plug off was NOT that big a deal. digitaldrifter, did you buy the car used, or have you ever had someone else service your transmission? It almost sounds like some dolt used a "thread-lock" compound on the drain plug.

I'll bet that drain plug is just plenty tight, and you don't have a good pull on the wrench.

I removed the transmission fill plug on a '98 Accord a couple of days ago. I had to get my long breaker bar and pull much harder than I expected (just about as hard as I could pull and still keep the socket & extensions aligned). This was from the top of the engine, easy access, and good leverage. For a plug on the bottom, with the car on ramps, not a lift, it would be a real trick getting out a plug that tight.

hehe i wish i can do that...i put a huge breaker bar to it and a air impact wrench and it wont budge...i tried many grips and tried my ramps and no matter how good a grip i got it wouldnt go...i ended up bending a craftsman wrench hehe its ok it is full replacement warrenty. hehe come down here and take it off for me =)
