Anyone got a link to a write up for changing the fluid in my transfer case on my 2000 grand Cherokee? What about a trans change?

I have some stuff on the trans flush, but have had a hard time finding something about the transfer case.

Thanks!

Thanks adreed, but I posted the same thing over there too, so far nothing helpful.

Anyone?

Changing fluid on the 242 is a snap..upper and lower drain plugs and ATF4 is recommended...look in your owners manual. The 42RE I would take it to the dealer if you don't know what you're doing or get a service manual.I purchased the factory service manuals for every vehicle I plan on keeping a long time. They are $60 but pay for themselves the first time you use them.

wow, $60 for the factory manual? Cost me $105, not incl shipping from tenaflyjeepmoparparts.com

the 242 transfer case is simple, just atf+4, drain out the bottom hole, fill from top till level with the hole I believe.

The 42RE as far as I know is like your typical auto. Drop the pan, replace filter and refill, then pull the tranny cooler line to drain out the tq converter; there's a writeup from amsoil on that if you need it.

But with the 42RE, it's recommended to adjust the bands every 30k mile I think with the tranny fluid change. You need an inch-lb tq wrench, and the specs would be listed in the service manual. I've searched all over and couldn't find the #'s so I broke down and bought the book.
