I’ve got a utility trailer that I’d like to replace the hubs on. Issue is, it’s a Frankenstein trailer. Titled as a 1977 Roadrunner, was once a boat trailer (not sure if it was originally?).

Not sure how to know what to get without tearing it apart, if it even has part numbers. 5x4.5” lug pattern. Would hate to tear it apart and not be able to put it back together without replacing the whole axle.

Looking online these bearing sizes seem popular, but maybe for non-Frankenstein trailers. Amazon link below.

We had a farm trailer with wobbly bearings in one wheel. My son took the entire hub off and took it to a trailer sales/builder place and got a new hub loaded with bearings for about $70. Our trailer was bought by my dad at least 30 years ago so parts must be fairly standardized.

Chances are very good that if the bearings have any ledgeable numbers on them that you'll be able to get replacements. Even if they don't, measuring them with some dial calipers will yield enough info to get the right ones.

Most every large town still has a shop that sells bearings... Found one for you.

I’m wanting to replace the whole hub assembly as I’ve got a stud snapped off and another stud backing out, would like to just start fresh. So not just bearings, but I’ll have to figure out if the replacement hubs will even fit on these spindles.

Yeah, can see from that Bearing Buddy (old tech) that’s a boat trailer hub.
You have a marine dealer around ?

It definitely was a boat trailer. You can tell from the elongated tongue and the V shaped frames underneath. But that should not matter for wheels and bearings. There are only a few standard sizes. As noted, remove the castle nut and pull the hub and bearings off as a unit (the wheel and tire can even stay attached) and measure the spindle diameters where the bearings meet it.

I bought a replacement hub with pre-greased bearings and seal installed from eTrailer.com.

Pull your hub off. Then measure the spindle at the outer bearing, inner bearing and at the seal. Give them a call and they will get you the right parts. You can also look online, their website has all the info.

Another +1 for eTrailer.com. I've bought axles, springs, hubs, equalizers, etc. Their customer service is fast and knowledgeable.
