I had been using Mobil 1 for awhile, switched to amsoil this past oil change. Im now thinking of using redline 5w-40 since Ill be doing a couple HPDEs and all the autox's this year. Is it really worth the extra money? I know guys have had good results with PP, but 99% of them do not track their car hard. Just looking to get your input, amsoil and redline run about the same price wise. The car has 35k on it, so Im concerned with protection. I havent done any oil tests in the past.

Is it worth the extra money to use a premium oil if you track your car hard?

Yes.

Which oil?

I would use Redline 10W-40 in my engine, and their synthetics in my transmission and differentials as well.

I already run redline transmission oil, I just picked up some redline 5w-40, Ill do test at 5k to see how the oil has held up.

I hope you have better luck than me. My MS3 required a left front strut and a new turbo after one 3 day HPDE. The warranty covered the repairs, but still... Looking on the bright side, my used oil analysis showed that the track time didn't wreck the engine or the oil(Mobil 1 5w30).

If you needed a turbo and a damper, its not the track's fault.

As for oil, I run a 290whp/280wtq miata on the track. I currently have Rotella 5w40 synthetic in it because its easy to get. I'd like to run Redline, but its a pain in the [censored] to get...unlike Rotella which I can get at walmart for $20 per gallon, anytime. I'd like to get the good esters in there.

Hustler, there's a performance shop in Plano that stocks nearly everything Redline makes. That's where I get mine.

Well, either way it desn't give me much confidence in the car's long-term durability. I might also add that the MS3 is my fifth track rat, and the first to need significant repairs at such a low mileage.
