TPMS tool for checking battery life, and programming

For now this would be needed for GM and Toyota. I have a cheap reset tool but I would like to read the battery life and not sure if I need anything else to program new sensors for the 2014 Highlander. Budget wise I would like to be under $150, I'm after a small handheld and not a subscription based device.

I think the Autel can only read Autel sensor battery voltage. With other sensors it just says ok. I remember it being this way, but maybe an update has changed that.

Actually, my Autel TS508WF unit can read many/most OEM installed TPMS sensors and their respective battery "condition" (not specific voltage). The battery's state of health is represented by the number of remaining bars in a battery icon (see below).

I've used it successfully on Toyotas, Nissans, Hondas, Hyundai and Ford sensors.

You can order it online from Advance Auto Parts and use the 20% discount code (CARCARE). The newest TS508WF model has WiFi connectivity for free lifetime updates and the kit includes 4 Autel MX sensors and 4 additional metal stems. With the discount, this kit is $200.

EDIT: The AAP photo shows the metal stems, but the Autel site doesn't say they are included with that kit.

Pretty sure the Toyota sensors only report battery good/ poor, so I think that's all the data any scanner can squeeze out of them.

It is pretty cool that there are sensors out there with more granular reporting.

The Autel looks good but its twice the price of the XTool

I think the X-Tool is limited to X-Tool sensors with some features...not 100% sure

Thanks for the link, at the top of their page it shows it's 20% off with that coupon code but won't accept the code for me..will need to dig more on it.

Autels will only program Autel sensors. They can read the data and actuate the rest though.
That should be sufficient as the tool will allow to change sensor registration info on the car. With Autel sensors it will also allow to program sensors to match what car is expecting per its registered data.
I got a kit with 8 sensors and extra stems and used the tool a few times, no regrets and would do it again.

True, it will only "Clone" Autel MX sensors
But it will Trigger and OBD Relearn many other sensors

I've used mine on factory GM, factory Toyota, aftermarket Schrader/BH Sens/Amazon no names

If you're shopping on RockAuto, go for sensors under the heading "OE Replacement (Programmed)"
