High interest rates crush a heavily financed vehicle.
Get a tune, and get it re-geared to 4.88. Makes a huge difference.I don't mind my 2023 Tacoma. It just has to have the Bajesus wound out of it, then it moves fine. So does a base 3.3 NA F150, 3.6 Ram. Anyone that says that's not true is lieing to themselves about the RAM and F150. They are sloooow until about 4500rpm, after that they start to accelerate. The same with the Tacoma.
I have a crew cab ultra short box 4x4 Sport trim, 3.5 with a 6spd manual.
Fanboi comment.dlundblad,
$45,000 before taxes is a mid to mid-upper trim level Tacoma before haggling. Mine stickered just over $40k. I was $40,300 otd. During times they were "adding" to sticker. Mine is one up from a base model
I do see your point...but a Nissan? They've always been noisy and crude ecoboxes with little beds. The Taco has a better turning radius, a better 4wd traction system, a manual transmission, better resale and more aftermarket support. A Nissan...well is a Nissan aka the Japanese Chrysler...mediocre but cheaper than the competition.
Compare it to an XLT Ranger if you want but not Nissan. Granted the Ranger is automatic only.
They say otherwise on TW. This guy said they were almost begging him to take it. Not a $60,000 Tacoma either. It was like his 3rd gen for a few more dollars, just like I said. The 4th gen is a bit more expensive, not much...heck the price of eggs have risen faster. I'm boycotting chickens. Lol

I have 4.88s and 255/80R17s and I run about 2000 rpm at 70.Yes, I have KD Max 8.0 Pro tune on it. How big are the tires on your truck? I may go one size taller and skinnier with a 255/70r17. I don't want to lift or anything.
E lockers would be cool but it does fine. I've lifted tires and the TRAC system pulls it right through. I just use 1st and 4 low and keep the rpms about 1500rpms and the TRAC light blinks and it never stops moving.
4.88s? That's got to be 3,000rpms at 70mph.
All my driving is 70-75mph hwy.

I have a love/hate relationship with my 2019 Tacoma. It’s very capable off road, but the drivetrain is horrible. I have 4.88s and several tunes. Nothing fixes it. It just doesn’t have enough power or gears.
Highway driving (esp at altitude): truck starts slowing down. Press pedal. Downshift. High revs. Speed up. Now too fast. Ease off. Upshift. Now underpowered. Truck slows down. Repeat.
If the fourth gen weren’t so problematic I would trade it.
