Quick question....any good? I have always used either wix or purolator with great success but was wondering how the Toyota filter stacks up against these two??

THX

I personally think they are good. There's some pics floating around here somewhere in the Filters section. If I could not get the OEMs for less than $5, then I'd have no problem running a Wix, napa gold, or Purolator.. in fact, I've run the Purolator Plus and Pure Ones with out any issue on my Tacoma, but went back to OEMs because I got them for $3 a pop.

Well built filters and a good buy. Especially if you buy a case of them. Think I paid $30-$40 for a case of ten Toyota filters for my Tundra...

They are good filters. I believe toyota filters are made by Mobil 1 as is toyota brand oil, does anyone know if this isnt so? Ive had much better looking oil with the larger $6 wix 51396 filter. Ive found nothing that can filter better for the price so its worth considering.

It isnt so. Mobil 1 filters are made for them by Champion Labs and while Mobil 1 may be the factory fill on some vehicles it wont be rebranded as a cheaper toyota oil.

Im sorry...is this good or bad....i assume thailand is bad??

I have run those Thailand filters without a problem.

I just don't like the idea of a Japanese product that doesn't actually come from Japan, and neither do many other people.

Lots of Japanese companies, and Japanese retirees, are in Thailand.

The typical plant has Japanese equipment, Japanese management, and Japanese QC.

Toyota OEM oil filters are made by Denso. Here is a link to show a Denso filter diagram which is also the Toyota OEM filter except the silicone ADB. Toyota OEM I believe is actually a little cheaper version than this. I believe Amsoil, Mobil 1, Wix, and PureOne are all better filters than the Toyota/Denso filter. No Silicone ADB valve. The media doesn't have a metal endcap, it is glued together. I had one blow out a couple months back. The side wall of the filter is very very thin. It blew out directly in the side of the filter. I sold all of the filters that I had left. Now I use Amsoil EaO filters. I think they are in the league with Fram. Not great, but they are going to filter your oil. So will a Fram, sort of.

Thanks Kitto Dyoel182 and Cooper for your information. Good to know.

I'll keep using the OE replacement filters, at least until the warranty runs out.

Please no one go rushing out beating their chest about the Magnusson-Moss Act, we have something similar in *Canada*, but the onus is placed on us, the consumer, to prove it wasn't our fault. Keeping the warranty claim out of the courts and just in the Service Department prevents us from having loads of headaches.

Do you have any pictures? There have been reports of different filter brands "blowing up" or "caving in", but I think many can be attributed to a stuck or malfunctioning oil pressure relief valve, especially on a tired, old engine.

Well, the engine is not a tired, old engine. The filter blew out and cracked on the side. I got oil spray all over the back of the car. It really sucked to clean up. I was so livid when I took the filter off I just threw it out. Now, I wish I would have taken a couple of pictures of it to show on here. Hindsight is always 20/20.

At $4 per filter including shipping, it's hard to beat a Toyota OEM filter when it comes to value.
