GM also released a new tally today for its global 2010 sales, at 8.39 million vehicles, slightly fewer than Toyota’s number, but a dramatic 12% rebound from 7.48 million vehicles the year before."

I'm surprised Toyota maintained as well as they did. As I recall, many feared that Audi'd close shop after its unintended acceleration deal in the 1980s. Toyota held serve with sales, but I don't know how they did financially. I know that deep incentives were a major factor of their sales "success". Wonder how much they "made" on each vehicle...

I have had fords, toyotas, chryslers, and many GMs and they are all reliable and each of them have their fair share of problems. Toyotas are overated and just as good a car as any.

I am not a big fan of Toyota myself because I find them boring, but, they must be doing something right because everyone that I know that owns one loves them and most have owned more than one. Personally I think reliability is all relative to personal views and experiences.

I am not a big fan of Toyota myself because I find them boring, but, they must be doing something right because everyone that I know that owns one loves them and most have owned more than one. Personally I think reliability is all relative to personal views and experiences.


I too think that Toyota's are boaring because I have owned them. I always wondered how a company can make a car feel so cheap but, never really give too many problems. The ride was mush and the handling was subpar. The door handles felt cheap, as did the way the doors closed and the switch gear and controls inside (mainly Corolla's) but, nothing broke off in my hand. From the Camry on up, they felt much better but only better, not great!

In the late 80's, early 90's, I thought that Hyundai automobiles felt more like a piece of quality to drive than did Toyota. I actually liked driving Hyundai's better(Excel, Scoop, Sonata) than driving Toyota's but, the repair records/reliability spoke for themselves...Toyota!

As far as feel/seat of the pants, I liked driving Chyrsler's and Honda's. They, IMHO, had the best road feel and driving experience for me. But, Honda has it all over Chrysler in the repair catigory. My Honda's have been the most reliabile cars "FOR ME" and Chrysler the least..."FOR ME"! I want to be clear on that. "FOR ME"! I can't answer for anyone else. Surveys do tell some of the story though.

Toyota was always a car company that took care of issues quickly. They really let this last problem(sticking throttle/excelerator) get out of hand and, Shame on them!
Honda too, was quick to address problems...Shame on them too!

I used to love my HonYotaSsanBaruZda that I have owned for their lack of issues especially in the electrical dept. Not only drivetrains that ran many 100K's without hickups but, no real issues to speak of anywhere in my experience over the years. Not like I did with the domestics; one thing after another, all the time. I'm still having great succuss with the HonYotaSsanBaruZda cars but, I am starting to loose confidence.

I also think that today, the playing field is more level. Buy what you like and drive it for a long time with too many issues.

The Toyota Corolla has been banned from parts of Brazil for "safety concerns".

I don't know what happened to Toyota that made them so boring. My first car was a beat to death '74 Celica. Loads of fun.
I dated a girl years ago with a Paseo. Less fun, but okay.
The current offerings have all the heart, soul, and fun of a toaster.

i agree my 07 corrola had a really cheap interior, my older focus 2001 that I got used has a higher quality interior. The motor and trans were good at 61k when it got totaled. handling was, eh.

I still think Toyota is very good. The fit and finish of interiors is "better" IMHO than GM's. My Scion tC for instance has a better/solid interior than my Pontiac G6 or my friends 08 Grand Prix(not sure about the "newer" GM cars though. It just felt tigher, no rattles etc.

I still think they are a good buy, but as with any car you will have hit or misses. one persons Lemon experience will differ from another's gold find.

The last Yaris I was in, the interior looked like it was put together by a retarded leper on meth. I posted pictures on this board and was called an outright liar! LOL!

I've been very happy with the two Toyotas I've owned. In fact, I probably wouldn't be in them if the brands I used to own were reliable. But they seemed to always be nickel-and-diming me. The Toyotas have been superb so far. The only reason I traded the Corolla on the Camry was the deal I got on the Camry during the media frenzy on the recalls. The fit-and-finish of both is as good as any brand/model I've owned and the blend of performance and economy is a perfect match for me. And as far as driving dynamics, I was driving Chryslers and Cadillacs. The Toyotas are downright dialed-in compared to what I'm used to driving.
