Toyota Filter

I dunno.

But the info should be on the Puro sight. Check the L14476 against the L20195, that is the Puro equivalent to the FL-400S. But you want to look at bypass settings as well as the gasket particulars. The L10241 is the "shorty" FL-910S equivalent which is just a shorter FL-400S.

Another BITOG'er on here with a Lexus says the FL-400s will fit his car, so maybe it'll work on the Toyota.

Oh geez Blue what are you thinking just slap an orange can on it and be done with it.

It's a Toyota anyway, so really, who cares?

The gasket isn't the same diameter but close and should work on that car. I've used FL400S's and 910S's on the Corolla many times. FYI, our Corolla calls for the same Purolator filter.

Maybe that's why it fits the Lexus too? I think its LSCowboy's Lexus.

Well if the FL-400S works then use it, you won't do any better in a 4 dollar filter.

It's my sons car. I have taught him to stay away from the OCOD!

Why not turn your son on to the TRD Performance Filter from Toyota:

For that price he can buy 3 NAPA ProSelect filters @ $2.97 each.

But how do the NAPA ProSelect filters compare?

"TRD High Performance Oil Filters incorporate state-of-the-art design and materials offering superior protection. The filter uses 3 plies of 100% synthetic glass/polyester blend filtration media that is 98% efficient at 20 microns - thats smaller than pollen."

I don't wish to be rude, but it seems you as a LOT of questions that you expect us to go research, rather than check for yourself. You're not a newbie here, nor would this be the first time you've heard this.

The gasket information, as well as most anything else you tend to query about, is typically available on the filter maker websites.

If you compare/contrast the filter makers suggested filter for each application, or use their x-ref feature, they are likely to be the same, or at least similar enough as to not result in any functional difference over the intended OCI. (That goes not just for the gaskets, but the media, the burst pressure, the flow ratings, bypass pressure, spring construction, and just about everything else you seem to want others to find out for you).

And then, presuming you're unable or unwilling to do your own web searches, you can always do the old standby; walk into Walmart or AZ or AAP, grab a few competing products, pull open the boxes and hold the gaskets together and use your visual eyeball-o-meter.

I apologize if this is a bit harsh, but you'd get your own answers quicker and with less bickering if you just looked them up yourself. Rare is the time you ask something that could not be found on your own. I don't know what confounds me more here:
1) that you cannot seem to find simple data from the net
2) that you worry about such petty stuff like gasket diameters in the first place

To appease you here, after ticking you off by calling out your slightly lazy methods, I'll say this:
none of the filters that I could find listed for this application have the EXACT SAME filter gasket diameter; I checked Wix, Puro, Fram and Donaldson. However, ALL of them are close enough that it won't make a darn bit of difference. I didn't check the M/C gasket, but since I'll be in Walmart later today, if you'd like, I could take my digital calipers and grab 30 of them on the shelf, take the measurements, do a statistical analysis and not only tell you the mean, but the standard deviation of both the inner and outer diameter, and also the thickness ...

It is not my intent to make you mad or embarrass you, but rather to perhaps show where you could become more self-sufficient?

You summed your whole response up in these first few words of your reply.
At the time I asked that Q? I had thought back that someone here had asked the same Q? and wanted to see if the reply would get here.
It's ok DN3, it's not your website. Take 2 Valiums and chill.
I still respect your knowledge.

Oh, BTW, the gasket diameters are less than 3/8" difference.

Wow, not as well as the TRD filter.

Good answer BOF - apparently some people think that because something was discussed before that it is not worthy of further discussion should someone wish to do so. I sometimes wonder why they think a discussion forum exists and why they are in it in the first place. Anyway, I have always found your inquiries and discussions that result from them interesting, informative, and sometimes, even entertaining.

....How about several inquiries on the same subject within 3 pages of each other?...

What we have here on the net (on this and every other forum I read) is a faaaaaiiiiiilure to search...

Of ALL the posts on this forum you pick this one to ridicule someone for something so trivial. How petty. How many others did you seek out and belittle for doing the same thing? None? Somehow that seems to NOT amaze me.

Apparently, someone needs some attention. And bad attention is better than none at all...

To answer your question, anything but Fram. That's what you want to hear, right?

Let's put some perspective to this topic ...

Quote:
Are the gaskets the same diameter on both filters?

Presuming he did the research to find that the two filters he querried about were for the same application, then why would gasket diameter even matter? If the filter makers recommend the filter for that application, does it matter how big the gasket is, relative to another brand? If it fits, it fits.

First of all, is he asking about ID, OD or both?

And if you want to get technical, then how deep do we drill down to the word "same" in his question? To the tenth of an inch? To the one-hundredth? The thousandth? Beyond?
Again - look at the question:
Quote:
Are the gaskets the same diameter on both filters?

Yes, no, maybe. Depends upon how one defines the word "same".

And if we want to know about diameter, then why ignore thickness? Cannot the silliness of the question go into the third dimension?

Here's an easy one-size fits all system:
1) find the filter maker site you prefer; enter your application
2) use the filter(s) they suggest

And I realize some will be defensive about my perceived aggression, but I would simply state that if one is going to ask silly questions, don't be upset when I call them out. One's membership here does not infer immunity from challenge, even if it's the intent I question. Why do you percieve it's my fault for calling you out for asking such a rudimentary question? Either defend you question with rational logic, or just admit it was a baseless querry with no forethought. Please show me where I went wrong asking you to define and defend your question? There is nothing wrong with asking questions when you put great effort into a topic, and are still confused. There is nothing wrong with asking for help when you need it. Did you "need" us to research the gasket diameter of two filters for you? You could not find this basic info on your own?

As a moderator, I have the responsibility to make sure everyone is treated with respect and fairness. And although some might see it otherwise, I have not called anyone bad names, nor cursed at folks, nor insulted their family lineage or birth-right. No site rules are being violated here, so my position as a moderator is not in question. But my ability to challenge and debate is still intact. I'm not only a moderator, but a member. And the member in me wants to know why such an open-ended, thoughtless question is worthy of band-width?

I will publically apologize here and now if I made you mad or offended you personally because that is not my intent. But I will not apologize for asking why we should look up a gasket diameter for you.

I WAS referring to other threads...that are in fact MORE confounding...

Crawling out of the woodwork, I see. Pay attention to that woodwork.
