Toyota Corolla timing chain info

Do all Toyota Corolla's have timing chains? I was talking to a friend and he wanted to buy a Corolla but didn't want a car with a timing belt that has to be changed. He is planning to keep the car for a long time and doesn't want the added expense/hassle of a timing belt.

I wasn't sure if every model year has a timing chain or if it was only certain years. How could I look this info up?

Look up the year and model on AutoZones site then look up timing components.

I think anything 1998 and newer will be a timing chain. I believe the 4A-FE and the 7A-FE engines were used until 1997, which had a timing belt.

So it depends on the age of the Corolla your friend is considering.

When they went to the 1ZZFE the Corolla no longer needed a belt change. So over a decade now.

The Corolla also used a timing chain during the 1960s and 1970s.

Yeah, they did! but they were really short timing chains.

The 3K and 2T were cam in block.
