The corolla is basic transportation at it's finest.
The fuel savings and POSSIBLE reliability practically pays for the car.

I fixed that for you. My Yaris has been in the shop twice already, and I haven't even hit 10k km's yet.

And on the light steering, my Yaris has it as well, nice for the city, not so great for the highway. Basic electric power steering.

Basic electronic power steering?
Thats pretty funny.

Why is it funny? Electric P/S is less costly to make than hydraulic P/S. High end electric P/S is a different beast.

Good memory. :)

To me, it kind of resembles the Matrix...

To me it kind of looks like a 4 door Golf.

I bet if Toyota sold that car in the USA, it would be a great selling car.

Well, we have a 4/5-door Yaris over here. In terms of interior space, there isn't a whole lot of difference there (85 cu. ft for Yaris, 90 cu. ft for Corolla). Gasoline engines are pretty close too - US versions of Yaris come with a 1.5-liter 106hp one. My sister's Corolla has a 1.4-liter 97hp one. But it's the diesel engines in those cars in Europe that really deliver great mpg.

that euro one is the normal corolla from one generation ago down here... why a different corlla for NA?

I have an 08 corolla but in 5 speed. Im 6'1" and wish the sterring column had the telescoping wheel and not just up down but I got used to it.

On trips to VA and back i had the cruise set at 65mph 98% of way and averaged right above 40mpg over 3 tanks with ac off and windows down. With the best tank at 42mpg. on another trip same thing, windows down but most of that trip was with the ac on, windows up and still got right around 40mpg

the corolla is a very reliable great mpg commuter car, nothing more, nothing less

Is it just me or does that look just like the Nissan Versa?

That one looks more rounded. The Versa is more triangular and is a bit sleeker. I actually think that Corolla looks worse than the one we got here.
