Toyota Care --- NO CLUE!!!!

Don't feel too bad, my ToyotaCare experience was one damaged air filter (destroyed, left a flap hanging out), one time they said they changed the oil but did not. Tried to dance there way out of "you didn't need it". I said look at the page in the book. And twice they significantly over-filled - by like a quart.

I agree its not worth the trouble. Not sure why I kept going. I was happy when the warranty ran out.
Sorry to hear about your experience, I wont be going back anytime soon.

Why do people even bother with this “free” service? Especially if you DIY between their 10k intervals? The hassle alone and the possibility of a screw up and playing games would be enough for me to skip all of that and just do my own changes.
I do it on one for dealership warranty - that’s how they do it. I did install a Fumoto to protect the threads and keep them guessing 😷

Take my 2023 Rav4 Hybrid XSE that I bought brand new -- delivery 8/17/2023 into dealership for Toyota Care. The Rav4 had 24,438 miles as I pulled into the bay. Notice on my way home that the paperwork does not clarify oil change but it does have tire rotation marked and billed. So I come home and put it up on the Rhino Ramps. Take the cover plate off and there is the Fram Endurance oil filter I installed when I did my own 20K oil change. I call them and speak directly to the adviser who took my keys and brought my paperwork out. He replies no you didnt get you oil changed, you are at 25K miles. I said -- clearly you are not looking at the paperwork I signed that you personally gave me. The paperwork states, 24,438 miles. Then I said, under Toyota Care I have 2 free oil changes up to 25K miles or 24 months. He says, thats not how it works. Now I am waiting for the manger of the department to call me back. How many other people has this crew did this too???? Advisor clearly needs trained/coached immediately!!!! Hence, I am not leasing this vehicle -- I put 20% down when I took delivery.. Note: I did my own personal oil changes at 900 miles/4900 miles/Toyota Care at 10K/15K and 20K. Which I mentioned to the advisor about because I dont feel comfortable with 10K oil changes.
Do the new Rav4s have spin on filters now, or still the canister filters?

I asked for my 2nd Toyota Care service. Like I asked for my first 10K Toyota Care service... I have -- 2 years/24 months or up to 25K miles for this second service under Toyota Care.
"service" does not necessarily mean oil change in Toyota's world. The 5K service is rotate tires and check a few things. ToyotaCare - the basic package, includes 4 tire rotation / fluid check services and 2 include an oil change.

They and you should have clarified. Yes there supposed to be the professionals, welcome to 2025. I hate that you never get a printed work order to sign anymore - it would lessen the confusion for those of us that read them.

You can ask for whatever you want in the world. They're following the Toyota guidelines. What time today are you going to call the manager and apologize?

Spin on. Easy Peasy.

They'll only do two (2) oil changes under the Toyota Care plan. Either based on time or mileage. If they did Toyota Care oil changes at 10k and 15k as you indicated, you won't get any more 'Free' oil changes.

On our 4Runner, I didn't want the lube tech hacks stripping and/or overtightening fasteners. I asked them if they would give me the oil and filter, and I'd change it myself. They agreed, but I suspect they only did so because I had worked with the service manager as a Master Tech at another Toyota dealer years before.

They only did my 10K service.

We're Metals post shows you why you didn't get an oil change. You got the 25k service which doesn't include one.

I erased it but had an email from the dealership I bought the vehicle stating -- you have a 2nd oil change due at 24months or before 25K.

Not worth the hassle. Still hoping to get 5 quarts of Toyota 0W16. They can keep there OEM filter. Time will tell.

I think it goes like this.

Service every 5,000 Miles which is basically a tire rotation.
Oil Change every 10,000 miles.

So at 25,000 miles in his world you would just need a tire rotation.
👍🏻
Then I said, under Toyota Care I have 2 free oil changes up to 25K miles or 24 months. He says, thats not how it works.
Toyota says change the oil every 10k miles and they pay for that. Oil change at 10k and 20k is your (2) free oil changes. How you feel about 10k oil changes is 100% irrelevant to them and seemingly aren't that important for you either if you're not willing to pay out-of-pocket.

Now, did you get oil changes at 10k and 20k ? No one here knows.... You seem to believe you're entitled to oil changes every 5k miles though and you're not.

The "free" maintenance programs will NEVER do anything more than the minimum maintenance outlined in the owners manual, not the severe schedule but just the normal one. They will change oil with TGMO and filter at every 10K increments (10k and 20K in your case) and it looks like tire rotation every 5K and "inspections". IMO, the tire rotations at the 5K schedules are a waste of a trip as anyone can do that at home. But yeah, you're not getting more than 2 oil changes under that program - and only at 10K and 20K miles - under any condition. Toyota reimburses the dealers a heavily discounted small amount for the services so they're not going to "throw in" anything extra. It sucks, but it is what it is.

You're entitled to 2 oil changes, whenever you "get" them I cant comment on.

Why bother monkeying around with the dealership (obviously this has completely rocked your world)? I get that money is a challenge for you but your time has to be worth something. Its the easiest car ever to change the oil on and Pennsylvania has likely Dethawed out by now. Just one guys opinion.

Dealer is going to explain this all to you. Its in the care manual you received when you purchased - not leased - the car.

Call toyota if you feel so outraged!!!!View attachment 287631
You are personally taking it to another level. I am far from outraged. In one hand your being beneficial and in the next hand your a psychiatrist. Relax...

Okay, so if part of the purchase of the car was to include two oil changes in the first 25K then they did shortchange you.
I would be a little POed too.
I do wonder whether it was worth your time to take advantage of these "free" service visits?
Tire rotation really only needs to be done 1X in 25K and an oil change using quality oil and filter should come to thirty bucks or less, so I'm not sure that your time investment was worth it, particularly since they shorted you one oil change.
You could call Toyota and they'd probably tell the dealership service manager to go ahead and do it, but would you then really want to take your car back to them?

Right so the 25k service does not include an oil change, per the service manual.

There’s a degree of irony here in that OP is calling the dealer ignorant when it reallly appears like OP is the ignorant one based on his responses.

‘Why didn’t you perform the service I didn’t ask for?!? Are you ignorant??’ LOLLL

It is my understanding that you can request for the upcoming service interval to be performed, but not the prior service interval.

For instance, I took my MIL's RX350h to the dealer at 9 months and 6K but requested for the 1yr/10K LexusCare service to be performed. Service writer and warranty admin had no issues with that.

From a warranty admin standpoint, requesting for a 20K service to be performed at 25K will cause all sorts of red flags.
