Hi all,

Here are some photos from a Toyota 90915-20004 filter that I had on my 2000 LS430.

I bought 10 of these, hearing that they were good filters and possibily discontinued. They seem very well made. The pleats seem thick/rigid. I'm no expert, though.

I have cut open a few filters on my LS430 which has gone through a series of short OCIs after purchase. Seems I'm working through some carbon/sludge? This filter has seen about 6000km/2 oil changes See pics.

I bet it's made in Thailand. Filter looks good, but what it caught.. What oil are you using? I've seen on the Civic (retired now) where the newer oils (Mobil 1 in my case) really started cleaning up the engine. It was never dirty in the first place, just a little varnish, one oil change and BAM! It's very clean.. Wondering if that's going on with yours.

did a quick search, looks like the 90915-20004 was replaced by the 90915-yzzd3.. here's a picture of a cut open one..

It is indeed made in Thailand - Its been a mixed bag (including mobil 0w40) but the last two oil changes on this filter have been penrite racing 5w30 and penrite racing 10w40.

Similar story to you - fair bit of varnish under the valve covers but nothing too crazy. I know it did a long oci under the previous owner of 20k kilometers at some point.

It's interesting that the newer oils are doing some awesome levels of cleaning. Thanks for adding what you've gone through where it wasn't that bad in terms of dirt/gunk/sludge, etc. I was not expecting what happened with Mobil 1, here I thought their "triple cleaning action" was just marketing, until I did that drain and it was so dark you couldn't even get a flash light through the oil! That's what made me look under the valve cover (I still need to take pictures) and was blown away how clean it was. I still have the oil filter that was on that change.. I'll get around to cutting it open. I bet it will have the same debris yours had. I had a Honda oem filter (filtech) which looks exactly like your 20004 filter!

I think on some of the Toyota engines, they're happy with any oil, the quality is unmatched.

Funny/ironic you did use Mobil like I did.. I'll make a prediction and say that your next oil change won't have hardly anything in the oil filter. I think this is also why Valvoline came out with their new oil that claims to clean engines, the push for tighter oil standards had the oil companies discover something.. Interesting that both Mobil and Valvoline are getting similar results! Hey I can't complain, I think it's awesome.

Thank You sir

I believe these are the factory install filters part number, i have cut opened a YZZD3 almost a year ago here. Very solid filter with lots of media. The media element measured about 3.125 or 80mm tall. I would run these over the smaller sized YZZN1 filters on my daily driver since they cost the same at the dealership.

Hi 'Stude,

I would have put the same filter on, but my garage is a bit of a mess and my stash was hard to reach.

I put on a Ryco z418 ST - check out my cut open thread for this filter, here:
