I am considering buying a Toyota FJ with the 4.0 V6, the same one that is in the Tacoma. I believe that it calls for 5w-30. I have a stockpile of GC and was wondering if it would be OK to use that. Thanks guys.

Enjoy the FJ. Enjoy the 1GRFE you will like it. Easy to change oil on plus it is very peppy on the Prado platform that the FJ and 4 runner semi share.

This is all good news. I hate to trade in the V-Dub, but I've just outgrown it. Are there any Toyata forums I could check out?

If you really want to have fun with that FJ this is where you should start.
I have been a member for years and you can learn alot specifically about your rig. http://ttora.com/

I wish I had room(and $$) for another rig because an FJ would Complement my Taco and 4-Runner nicely. For that FJ I am Jealous

enjoy your FJ, make sure you find and keep using the factory toyota oil filter which came installed on the car which is the 90915-20004. That is put on at the factory but toyota does not import it here, so dealer will most likely give you a denso made in thialnad filter.

If you look on the web, there are a couple of places that still have the 20004 filter.

my take is, if you use a good oil..make sure you use a good filter as well.

check out the difference between the filters here....

If you're interested GC and K&N oil filters make a great combo.

$25.50 gets you 3 oversized K&N HP-2009 (or you can get the regular HP-1002, same price) oil filters. Free shipping. www.ajusa.com

Like buy 2, get one free if you were to buy them or similarly priced M1 filters from the local store.

Just have to add an extra 0.3 quarts of oil to the 1GR-FE.

I wouldn't use an oversize filter on most Toyota engines, because on toyota engines the filters are mounted horizontilly as opposed to some other engines.
the bigger filter like K N will take longer for oil pressure to stabilize when you start the engine, and you might here valve noise. a lot of the landcruisers have this issue, and that is why is 96, they went from the large filter (41010) to the smaller 20004 filter for the landcruisers and GS 300/400's (supra engines).

Good thing most doesn't include the 1GR-FE... which is what we are talking about here.
