I am from Trinidad in the Caribbean.
My Toyota Estima has a 2AZ-FE engine and it suffered an engine overheat causing me to have to rebuild the engine. I had to Shave the Block, Re-Sleeve the cylinders, Re-thread 10 bolt holes in the Block, Replace Pistons, Rings, Seals & Gaskets. I also replaced the water pump, 2 coil packs and the Radiator was re-built in metal instead of the original plastic - it was cracked (which caused the whole mess). OH ! I also had a misfiring problem (after the engine was rebuilt), which was rectified by replacing the Camshaft Timing Oil Control Valve Assy.
We experience temperatures of about 31-40 Degrees Celsius here in Trinidad. My mechanic told me to use 20W 50 Castrol GTX oil in the engine. I normally used Mobil 1 10w30 Clean5000 oil. I find his recommendation a bit strange. He tells me that my engine is old (Manuf. in 2001) so I need a thicker oil. Is this correct ? Or is he setting me up for a quick death to my newly rebuilt engine ?
