Here it is. Let the games begin.

I thought the silicon was high, but it started at 12. Don't know why the Visc@40c wasn't done. Caterham will be disappointed.

Previous run was PP 5w30 with an Auto-Rx dose. This run would be considered the rinse cycle.

Here's a link to the VOA of the oil that's actually in my engine.

No, that's why I sampled with a pump. The oil is still in the engine. The TBN is still high. Toyota is recommending this oil be left in for 10000 MILES in certain of their vehicles now.

Looks good.
The 100C vis of 8.7cSt shows some shear when compared to the VOA of 9.3cSt and at 6% it's certainly not excessive.
The TBN of 5.11 vs the VOA of 6.27 shows plenty of life left in this oil. Toyota's rec' of 10,000 miles seems reasonable.

rcy, did you ask about the missing 40C vis' measure?
Are they going to do it?

Closed now...I'll call tomorrow.

And the 100c vis was 8.85 with Toromont, but I guess comparing lab to lab is not a good idea. Maybe I should draw another sample and sent to Toromont.

A perfect example of the benefit of having a VOA (21 for AL) for an oil which has been UOAed (19 for AL

),...provided the VOA/UOA is accurate ie 21>19?

For sure I'd love to see another lab's analysis but I have come to the conclusion that no good will come of it as invariably these garden variety labs give results all across the board. Do it if you want to stir the pot.

rcy, based upon this UOA what is your plan re your current fill of this 0W20? That is how much longer will you keep it? What will you replace it with?

We know Wearcheck's 100C vis measurement reads high.
Patman's recent post of his 'Vette with PP 5W-30 and 7,000 miles gave a 100C vis of 11cSt vs 10.3cSt from the PDS.
When you talk to them I'd bring it up (again). Ask if they have any plans on recalibrating?

Thinking of leaving it in till 10000km. Have more in the garage, but also have some 5w30 (Quaker State syn and Valvoline syn) that I need to get rid of. Don't know.

You think I should stick with the Toyota 0w20 all year, forever? I could use the 5w30 in Mom's or little brother's car, though Mom's Honda specs 5w20.

What I'll probably do is wait till 10000km and send that sample to Toromont (or maybe Blackstone??). Just for kicks.

Great report! The aluminum is a puzzler though, since you did see 21 on the VOA from Wearcheck, but the other VOA showed nowhere near that much aluminum (I believe the second VOA showed only 1ppm of AL?)

I am still amazed at the value of this oil, with such a high dose of boron and moly in it, plus that awesome low 40c viscosity. I'm probably going to stick with this oil in my wife's car for quite a while. I won't have a UOA from this oil in her car until November or December though.

Must be something to do with Wearcheck (their equipment/methods?). All other wear metals were low - why would aluminum be high? Plus it read high in the VOA and UOA. Seriously think I'm gonna send a sample to Toromont, maybe sooner rather than at 10000KM.

How much does Wear Check cost?

I bought a box of 12 sample kits (MOB 1, which is their entry level package that doesn't give TBN or viscosity at 40c, but gives everything else you'll need) and it came out to just under $280 including tax.

Well, Toromont is much cheaper ($25 iirc), but I don't think they test for as much stuff, and they don't do Visc@40c on VOA or UOA, however, they do TBN and TAN for free - you just have to ask.

I think I paid around $46 at Wearcheck for a UOA with the TBN (known as MOBII (also shown on the UOA). I thought that would get me TAN and Visc@40c too, but I'll have to call them tomorrow and double check, 'cause it wasn't in the UOA.

Yes the Toyota oil is a terrific value and they're no doubt making money selling it at the current price level. It's half the price of ENEOS which is basically the same oil without the fine tuning to Toyota's requirements. And the new CE 0W-20 appears to be a clone to meet Toyota's and Honda's requirements but it will likely be 3 times the price here in Canada. It just goes to show how much national brand name advertizing adds to the cost of the premium oil brands.
Assuming for the sake of argument the Toyota
