I have a few rather deep scratches on my red truck that I would like to try and touch up. They are about 1/4" wide and down to the gray primer. Short of just slapping some on from one of those little bottles of touchup paint, is there a way to actually get it to match a little and look decent?

With a scratch that deep, sanding and buffing won't remove it but may reduce the appearance.

You will get better results if you touch up the area with several applications of paint, let it dry, sand it back level, then buff it out. Done correctly, you will hardly notice it.

What you want to do is to clean that area with alcohol or some kind of cleaner and then use the touch-up paint. Then buy Quixx kit and wet sand it as explained in the kit. If you do not have the courage to wet sand your shiny brand new truck, try it on a jalopy first. But that method works and Quixx is great for taking the scratches out bar none. I have used similar products from 3M, Meguiar and Kit and Quixx beats them all. It is super expensive but is available at your local Walmart.
