I was intrigued by a local CL add recently. It was for an older Toro 8/24 Powershift snowthrower that was advertised as having a Honda engine on it. Based on the not so great pictures posted, it definitely didn't look like a Honda, nor did it look like the Tecumseh Snow King, 99.9% of them had. Upon digging online, I discovered it's actually a Mitsubishi flat head?!?

Has anyone ever heard of this combo? Any experience with it? Had it been a Honda, I would have jumped. It looked super clean, was just a few miles away and they were asking $450. It's gone now. Here's what the engine looked like; Toro serial # 38525 which shows it as a 724 machine, but indeed the machine in the CL add with this engine was labeled as an 824. It REALLY looked like a standard Briggs or Tecumseh block, with a funky gas tank and shrouding, but again, I've never even heard of this engine on a Toro.

Mitsubishi L-head..

Never heard of a Mitsubishi engine on a Toro.

I do have a Mitsubishi engine on my pressure washer. It's a 6 h.p. ohv design that I suspect is likely built in China. No where on the engine does it show where it was manufactured. If it were built in Japan, you can rest assured that it would have been well advertised. Nonetheless, it's been a great engine in the five or six years that I've owned it.
