Toro Snowblower w/Suzuki engine-low compression

Our toro snowblower with the 2cycle suzuki engine does not start-fresh fuel, spark, etc; getting fuel, tried priming, starter fluid, etc.

Checked compression-60 psi; !!**&^%$, darn, shucks; gonna get a brew & send this post.

I understand these older suzuki engines are very expensive to fix, parts, etc.

Pour some oil down the spark plug hole and see if that will increase the compression enough to get it started.

No ethanol blends in Montana.
Just finished a search & I'm not the first with this problem. Has anyone replaced the suzuki engine with another make?

What oil were you using in the gas, and at what ratio?

What is the amount of use it has seen (hours, or gallons of gas, or number of seasons)?

compression should be over 100psi. some engines use a compression reducer to make them easier to start - its a piece on the camshaft that moves once the engine hits speed. I believe in those case you test compression by turning the engine backwards. but if it wont start with starting fluid you either have no spark, bad timing, or low compression

No cam, it's a 2 stroke.

I can't say this is a common or premature issue with the Suzuki 2-stroke in these snowblowers. This exact engine was used on Toro's premium commercial line pushmmowers for years and scrapped mainly due to emissions as far as I know. I'm sure a lot of it is to reduce their cost. Toro switched to Tecumseh and now a Briggs owned 2-stroke.

Lessee- We bought it new in Oct 89; moderate residential use; usually use toro or valvoline 2 stroke oil @ 50:1. Until recently, always started in one to two pulls, but the last couple of times it took a lot of pulling, then it would not fire at all.

I pulled the engine out a little while ago, and did not notice anything unusual through the ports.
