Torco SR-1 5w-20

I bought an '06 Mazda 3s 5-Door GT (LOADED!!) with the 2.3L motor. It's spec'd for 5w-20, and that's what I'm going to use.....No Exceptions!!

Anyway, I bought 8 liters of Torco SR-1 5w-20 from the Torco website. That's pretty cool, just click and like magic the oil is at your door in 2 days.

I drained out the factory fill @ 1,118 miles and filled with 4 liters of Torco 5w-20 and a new Mazda cartridge oil filter & o-rings.

If anybody has any experience with the SR-1 5w-20 and would like to share it with me, please do so!

Why don't you tell us how the engine feels after swapping it with SR-1?

The engine "sounds and feels" about the same as before. My butt-dyno isn't very accurate, so I didn't include any HP/torque "findings".

But I do have an on-board computer, and it has me getting the best MPG's that I've ever achieved with the SR-1 5w-20. I've only had the SR-1 in for 1 1/2 full tank fuel runs however.

On the first tank with the SR-1 I got 29.1 MPG, and 1/2 way through my 2nd tank I'm getting 28.9 MPG.

My best ever with the factory fill was 28.1 MPG and usually the MPG was around 27.0.

I don't do used oil analysis so this is about as "technical" as I get.

The SR-1 is a very good product. My son ordered 5 cases of it that's setting in my garage. It's in his Honda Element now, engine runs smooth and quite, could not tell you about gas mileage since his foot is always in it. So for it has 4,500 miles on it since he changed it without any oil consumption. I was concerned when he purchased it and sent Terry an email about it. Terry says the TORCO shows some good results.

So I say use it if you like it. I know back in the day they made some great racing oils and I hear they still do.

Torco is a well additized oil.

I wouldn't put too much stock on improved MPG readings with the Torco versus the factory-fill, seeing as how your engine is so new and is still breaking in.

My son used it in his Focus 2.0L dohc for around 25,000 miles (we got a batch of 5W-20 and 5w30 at a fantastic price from a generous BTOG poster). No problems with it at all. In fact if it wasn't for all the "deals" his old man gets on oil (rebates, BOGOF, etc),

he probably would still be using it.

Torco's price with SUPER LOW shipping costs IMO is hard to beat for a quality designer oil. Torco 5w-20 Viscosity @ 100°C 7.31 that plus their additives could get you a little mpg boost.
