Wich is the better product,in order?

some samples.

5w20

Penzoil yb
castrol gtx
quaker state
formula shell

When i looked seemed Castrol was dominating, now seems yb is the new "best"

Well, PYB, QS and FS are all made by the same company. And they are marketed in that order (premium to bulk), so either they would all be the same or with some variation in blends favoring the more expensive oils.

I've never really used any castrol, it's generally thicker and that's the opposite of the direction I head. I've had good luck with Mobil 5000 and PYB myself. I have a case of Valvoline... I've never used conventional Valvoline in my entire life.

1. Havoline/Chevron Supreme
2. Pennzoil YB
3. Quaker State
4. Mobil Clean 5000
5. Kendall GT-1
6. Formula Shell
7. Valvoline WB
8. Castrol GTX
9. Super Tech

I too would like to know where you can get Chevron Supreme. Is is the same as Havoline considering they are Chevron/Texaco?

I am thinking about running Pennzoil Platinum in my father's 125,000 mile Mercury Sable 12V V6 switching from Valvoline Max Life Blend. However, after reading all of this good stuff about Pennzoil YB conventional I am tempted to just use that for a 4000 mi OCI. Anyone object to this? I know he would need to save the money and I could do a whole Pennzoil YB change with Motorcraft filter for about $15 compared to $24 with PP.

I would just assume use Chevron Supreme if I could find it for a similar price to YB. I have also been tempted to try Formula Shell. These all seem like very good oils for cheap, can't beat that.

What is actualy the better 5w20 Pennzoil yb or castrol gtx. I can get the Pennzoil yb for 3.14 a L cad. Wich would be the cheapest oil i ever seen lol.

Better add packs ect. No personal pref. just the better oil .

This is true, it is only the list in the order I would choose them.

Let price be your guide.

REALLY!

Well even if they both perform the exact same up the the Civics manual oci from 8-10000 kms then the Pennzoil 5w20 is cheaper and more widley available around here always.

Just wanted reasurance wich one is a physicley better oil. I did not like the fact that the Castrol is a thicker oil for its weight, especialy in canadian winters.

Maybe this will start a 'Top semi-synthetic oil list in order' thread...lol. but seriously why hasnt any one listed Motorcraft 5W20? Same price point if not cheaper than most conventionals.

So here is my list:

1)Motorcraft 5w20 syn blend
2)Pennz. YB
3)Valvoline/NAPA
4)Havoline/Chevron

The originator of the thread was asking for info on top oils for his Honda Civic. I hope he has seen the 10,000 mile UOA of the accord with the motorcraft 5w20.

From my reading, the Chevron Supreme and Havoline Deposit Shield are the same oil. Looking at the spec sheets, the numbers are EXACTLY the same (vis, etc). I suppose additive packs could be slightly different, but I do understand that they're the same oil.

I've got a small stash of both oils from various close-outs about a year ago. I haven't specifically looked for it since, but the Havoline DS is pretty widely available. I've got the Chevron Supreme in the van and the DS in the Toyota and they really like it.

It is on the thin side, though. Both of my '07 models prefer 5W-20, but I've got this thin 5W-30 in both, and they run great on it.
