Interesting. Guess Sears isnt really a good place ot buy hardware anymore, and it is no suprise that Walmart and KM are at the bottom by far, though Id had thought that KM would have scored a little better for having less hassle in the stores.

I shop at Walmart in the morning when the store is empty, I have to agree with the article that Walmart sometimes doesn't have enough cashiers during the rush. I like shopping at JCP for clothes.

sometimes? Id say more like never. Same as K-mart, but at least K-mart never promised to open a new line if more than two folks were seen waiting.

But they're still the largest retailer, I doubt the above bothers them much.

As far as only getting store credit when returning an item, might try keeping the sales receipt.

I find Target to be a tolerable experience.

I can't speak for Costco, I've never been in one. Same with Macy's and Meijer. Sears and Kmart have deteriorated to the point that I no longer do business with either. I occasionally make a purchase at Target, but it's rare because there isn't one close. I have purchased a few shirts at Kohls, and I've made a number of purchases at JC Penny online; I've been pleased with the product and service each time.

I can't stand the poor service and shoddy merchandise at WalMart-I can't imagine lowering my standards that far and actually shopping there on a regular basis.

When I go into Walmart, I don't expect any service. As a matter of fact, I try to avoid all their service at all cost. I know exactly what I want. I grab it, and I'm outta there.

Exactly how I view it. I'm on my own, know what I want, and it's cheap.

Also, go in the morning. The other customers are less colorful in the morning for whatever reason and there's less of them.

Frankly I also do not want service as long ago I got sick and tired of someone walking up to me and asking if I wanted help, then hanging around me as if I was going to shop lift everything within reach.

I see no difference with the name brand goods sold at WalMart and the same items sold at other stores other than a lower price to help me streach my budget.

I suppose if one buys WalMarts brand there may be a difference but again its still usually much less expensive, so again my dollar goes further.

For those not wishing to "lower" themselves to WalMart, keep buying at the high end stores, come summer I'll by by your wifes garage sale to by your "high end" trousers and shirts that you've worn maybe once or twice. I'll pay for them with monies saved from shopping at WalMart.

See, I still make everybody happy.

The clientale at my local Target is mostly easy on the eyes.

It is also closest by a good margin. Proximity plays a huge factor for me shopping.

I refuse to shop at Wal-Mart for anything other than oil and with recent oil deal pillaging, I may not have to go for a while.

For everyday type consumable items, Target is fine. It is about a mile from my apartment, clean and fellow shoppers don't drive me crazy like at Wal-Mart.

I will say that if I can buy it on Amazon, I will. Free shipping, no tax and not having to actually step foot in a B&M = well worth Prime annual fee.

I find my usual go to stores are:
Amazon is great if you can wait. Excellent customer service as well.
Walmart for DexVI, some oil, Motorcraft filters and generic pharmacy items. Generic A&D ointment for baby butts is literally 1/5 the cost of CVS.
BJ's for pretty much everything else with an occasional Publix run.

I refuse to shop at Target because of their position on the Boy Scouts and their refusal to allow the Salvation Army Bell Ringers during the Christmas Season. Both of the mentioned organizations do more good than target ever could so they snub them, likewise I snub them.

My buying is proximity biased. I buy oil at my local Auto Zone. I buy hardware and appliances from Lowes. I buy my BMW parts on-line. I'm painting the house with paint purchased at the local Sherwin- Williams store. I get my Stihl parts and nuts and bolts etc, from a guy Ive known for over 50 yrs. Most of my lumber comes from the yard about a mile down the street.
