The one about work was so true. How many people are on their deathbed saying, "I wish I'd spent more time at the office."?

And a good point...all the money in the bank is not going to help you if you are dead!

They bring up some good points, especially about work, and living your life true to yourself.

Sometimes, though, "driven" has less to do with $$, and more to do with achievement, or serving a greater good. I don't regret those things that took real drive and sacrifice to accomplish. I didn't get paid much, and the time away from family and home was extensive, but when I look back on life, flying F-14s in combat and serving our Navy and our country will not be among my regrets.

Typical AARP drivel. Most of it sounds like an excuse not to make something of yourself with the life you've been given.

Never saw an epitaph that said: "I wish I had worked More".
However, I did see an epitaph in Key West that said: "I told you I was sick".

Not at all - don't make it into something it's not. This is valuable information - a chance to learn from our elders before it's too late.

Top Five Regrets of the Dying [extreme sports edition]

#1 - I wish I would have spent the time to check my parachute.
#2-5 (see #1)

Regarding working too much (#2 in the article) - between working 40 hours a week (a lot work more!) and sleeping ~7 hours a night, BAMN! there goes 2/3 of your time! I'm looking forward to an age 50's retirement by budgeting and saving (32 currently). No sense in working any more than you have to (unless you're one of those weirdoes that likes to work).

Yep working extra hard at expense of time with kids is so worth it.

In my opinion, it's rather trivial what AARP has to say on this. Why? Well, even if true, when one is dying the emotions run high and statements made during that period can be a bit askew of the facts. Regrets? Sure, we all have them now and I suspect a little bit more on our death bed. But we live our lives according to many factors that shape us. Our upbringing, genetics, health, and many more things cause us to be who we are. Nothing to really regret or moan about. It's life. We are cognizant throughout our tenure here on earth and able to decide how to live our lives for many years.....yet we are still a product of the aforementioned. We do the best we can (not all of course) to lead a 'good' life and be what we feel we are supposed or ought to do. This bunk about what the dying 'wish' is really pointless except for the authors desire to somehow advise us all to listen to the poor souls and take note.

I know a few people who regret not working hard enough in school and have to settle for jobs that barely make a living, does that count?
