Great point x3 .

Regardless of subcategory how could you possibly account for 'great' with a list of 'ten' ?

Young, and absolutely fantastic is Derric Trucks. Son of Alman Bros. drummer, Butch Trucks.

Nobody else care for Warren Hayes (Government Mule)?

OMG, I didn't see Eddy Van Halen even mentioned on this entire first page of this post, I think I'm going to be sick.

This was actually only the top 10 of Rolling Stone's Top 100 list, 2003.
Andres Segovia was absolutely one of the great guitarists, and John Williams is great too, but not many people here probably enjoy classical music.
PS, bird: Page, over-rated? Never slam the Sorceror!

Robin Trower

Oh man...Nothing like listening to "Bridge of Sighs" while getting "Too Rolling Stoned".

If it were me, Kirk Hammett would be on that list, too. He does some really impressive work on "And Justice for All".

That's funny, I was just listening to that CD earlier today. Listening to Kill 'em All right now actually. But where's Steve Vai on the list? And how about Buckethead? C'mon now

Frank Marino

I was one of Mahogany Rush's biggest fans.
It was rumored years ago that Frank's career was ended when the engine from the funny car that he and his pals had, fell over in the shop and crushed his hand.
This was supposed to have ended his brilliant career.

But others state that he was simply still stung out on drugs and that was their best excuse to slide away with honor. (shrug)
All I know is the guy could really grind an axe.

Outside of rockers...
I haven't heard Larry Coreal mentioned.
What a fantastic guitarist he is. Everyone should listen to at least one of his numbers. You'll probably want to hear more.

Oh man, I can't believe this guy slipped my mind!

If anyone has seen ZZ Top live, they will have to agree that 'the Reverend" Billy F. Gibbons is amazing.

And his coffee table book, Rock & Roll Gear Head, is an excellent collection of cars and guitars. I saw it a Virgin in San Francisco a few months ago... should have bought it.

Jaybird, haven't heard that about Marino. Thanks.

Vince Gill always seems to surprise me with his talent. He is country but can have blusey and rock and rolley overtones or playing styles is some of his music .

No DAVID GILMOUR ??????????

Malmsteen is all show & no emotion. (running for cover)

I agree on David Gilmour...that man can play the guitar in such a mellow yet skull crushing way, it's amazing.

Personally I prefer Michael Schenker over Malmsteen and a lot of other flashy guitarists.

Gary Moore is another really good blues rock guitarist that regularly gets overlooked.
