Hey guys,
One of my current work projects is the establishment of world-wide (technical) service support for one of our product lines. The service Techs will operate at and be performing the duties of at least an Electronics Tech 3 level. I can talk more about that, but that's not really the discussion....

I am looking for Pelican case alternatives for a carry on tool box/case. Not sure of the overall size yet due to instrumentation and tool layout but similar to this:

https://www.pelican.com/us/en/product/cases/air/1595/

I have no issue going with Pelican, we have several times before. I have also used the HF Apache cases with great success in some applications.
I am simply just looking for other options on the market and not necessarily based on cost. I would love to find something with GPS tracking built in, but I'm sure that's not available yet. Regarding internal organization, this is up in the air yet as well as we have areas where foam will do the trick but other areas where we may need something more rigid like Pelican offers.

Thanks guys.

just for my own clarification... you're looking for just the Case, not an off the shelf prebuilt Tool Kit ( case, and all the Jazz inside it...
cuz that's what i initially thought you might be going for)

Correct, just the case.

The tools have to meet certain specs or requirements within our Quality system, so I have to assemble the actual tools separately from various vendors.

Nearly nothing beats a Pelican. What is the "tool".
Its various tools.
Mostly basic hand tools, a few instrumentation related tools. The service is on a table top ophthalmic device that treats dry related AMD.

We invented and brought to market the first rapid test technology, and device to deliver it that early detects a bio-marker for dry related AMD. In 2024 we then gained FDA approval for the first non-invasive treatment for dry related AMD. I am now working on service support for the treatment device that will be worldwide, starting with US, EU and some SA countries. Therefore I need to get guys in and out of airports without any added hiccups.

As to tracking, last year I watched a news clip about apple air tags will be linked to airports specifically for tracking luggage. It might be world-wide by now. Look into it. And if it works, rember to change the battery in them often.

Just did a quick search, 18 airlines now allow you to share your apple air tag info with them for improved luggage tracking. But also be sure the traveler has it paired to their phone just in case it ends up someplace not in the system so you can tell them where it is.

Ok well it sounds like any box of relative size would be fine. I would get a pelican or apache that fits under the seat. I really dont even understand the poiont of the post really.....I thought it was some special measurement tool or something.

I'm not sure how one could not understand the question, of which stands alone within the post even... I'm even more baffled at why someone would engage with some type of feedback having (admittedly) not even understood what they are giving feedback for.

As far as gps, I think muo (Make use of) had an article that highlighted alternatives to apply air tags , and some worked even better.

With two mentions of Air tags in the thread, I have to say that I am not an Apple supporter personally but that is the exact type of product I need.

However, even within the business (or a business of our scale) I do not see an efficient way to track company assets with the Apple product. Having said that I think the Air Tag is a great product in terms of design for many applications, this application would be one of them IF we can utilize normal inner office infrastructure (Microsoft, PC, etc.). I need to be able to mount the app or software on a VM where myself and other members of mngmt can view at any time. Unless I am missing something in this application, This is ultimately the same reason I use only ANDROID, Windows, Linux in my personal life, its simply about the engineering of the products and the usability.

I will search around for the MUO site and see what I can learn.

Many of these products work on BT or WiFi or GSM... This is a problem for me as I cannot guarantee any of these as being available. I truly need stand alone GPS function. This is BIG business, asset tracking, but many enterprising solutions go overboard for my current needs in terms of hardware and monitoring costs. I also do not really need real-time monitoring, just as long as it pings its location when I ask it to do so and weather it takes 30sec or 30min doe snot make a difference to right now.

I have seen many comments on Reddit that folks have brought Milwaukee pack outs at check in with success, something to consider. Milwaukee does have a tracking system but I never looked into it.

I'd look at the cube gps tracker for android and iphone. It has multiple ways to track your items and supposedly works everywhere.
Air tag alternatives

I use Samsung smart things because my phone is an android based Samsung A53 5G reconditioned. There is an online Samsung smart things site on the internet, and with log on info I can log on from anywhere with anything that can access the internet and see the location of my smart things and also my phone.

The smart thing I have hidden in my vehicle has the battery only last a couple months because it pings often, like whenever anyone with a recent Samsung phone is near it. It will report the location of the phone that picked up its signal on the world wide accessible Samsung smart things web sight. Also you can use the Samsung smart things internet site if you have the log on info for it to see a map of where it is, or on your phone to show a map of where it is. You can also use your phone to tell how many feet you are from the smart things device when you get within about a couple miles of it, and it even brakes the distance from it down to feet when you get closer to it. And you can also make it put out a noise. You can read the smart thing battery status on your phone, so you know when to replace it.

What I am saying is:

General purpose tools, dont really require much of a special box. A special tool, might require a special box. If you use said tools, I would assume that you might already know what would work........ie the misunderstanding.

You still did not answer the question i asked, which was, what is the special tool that you just have to carry with you on a plane as a carry on. Obviously, it cant be very dangerous, as they would not let you on the plane with screwdrivers.

Be careful with a sealed box, unless it has a known good pressure release valve, like the pelican. Apache is cheaper, but there might be a reason.
