Took the Castrol Edge plunge

To me it means I bought the stuff DESPITE the ignorant marketing utilized.

Edge at about a dollar a quart seems like a good buy, regardless of any skirt wearing, corporal punishment dispensing Scotsman.

I agree, too hard to pass up even with chimp/dipstick ads. This stuff was, what, about $7~8 a quart retail at launch.

Just sent my rebate form in... It's a shame the PureOne rebate expired in Sept, or that would have been another $2 saved.

I have to agree, even though I don't need anymore oil if AAP allows me to use the $10 off coupon I'm buying some.

Can you swap out the filter for another quart of oil in this special?

I only use MANN filters and my car takes 6 quarts of oil. At that price, I would gladly use EDGE over M1.

Yes, I wasted good oil. As posted previous I had good reason with the valve train noise I was having. I wanted to see if Edge and a different brand filter would make a difference, and so far it has.

I now have 3934 miles on my Edge oil and it has been about 7 months and my DIC says I have 31% oil life left.

Doing my calculations, I have about 3 more months to hit 5701 miles, at which time my DIC should be at 0%.

I intend to send a sample to Blackstone Labs for analysis. We will then see if the "dipstick warrior" is right !

Since I have retired, and now only work 2 days a week (consulting), my mileage has gone down and my short trips have increased. I used to see 6500+ miles on an oil change, now more like 5500 miles.

I have been thinking about just doing a sample at 0% and waiting for the oil analysis results.

I know I will have oil life left, because I have a 1998 and the OLM is based on 10,000 miles maximum, later years GM went to 15,000 miles maximum. So, I really am changing at 33% oil life left.

I feel like it will be good news. I already bought some more Castrol Edge while it was on sale. If it is good, I could run the oil longer. If there is no improvement, I may go back to Mobil 1 and save the Castrol Edge for my daughter's car (a Malibu Maxx), she does a lot of highway driving and I am running Mobil 1 Extended Performance for 15,000 miles in her car now.

Yep, that is correct.

Castrol "Edge" is considered a good synbthetic oil for long distance oil changes like Mobil 1 "EP". Next time just pick one and stick with it. No use wasting your money on synthetic oil you know will go the distance for you.

Well if the oil dont perform - out it goes! Mobil 1 is in no way the best or even serviceable GF4 oil on the market. Its only run well in one of my 65 cars Ive owned ( yes Im old!) - a miitsu 1.5L - every engine I've run it in it has been worse or terrible than esso superflo or even mobil clean.

I would forego a used oil analysis due to there being no cost effectiveness in it, and do 2x min oCi per annum. The oil forumlation will have changed and you could not use your used oil analysis data going forward. There are home TBN test kits out there that are more cost effective and prob more accurate than the 'stoners untrustable report.
