Tons of tiny air bubbles mixing oil

Last night I was transferring oil from one jug to another for an OC. Its a mix of weights/types. 3/1. I noticed a LOT of tiny air bubbles as the new oil was poured into the old. I shook the jug, seemed to dissipate. I never remember seeing that before.

Why I ask: That nasty tin foil seal they put on the Walmart jugs. It literally fell off the brand new Mobil 1 High Mileage 5w30 purchased last night. Was coming off as I opened the cap, usually I have to pop a hole, worry about the lip having pieces on it, etc. So after that I was suspicious, noticed the air. The air was in the Mobil 1 0w20 jug, where I was pouring the Mobil 1 5w30 HM.

Normal? Or possibly something wrong with that jug? I've never noticed air simply transferring oil without shaking it.

Normal. The thicker the oil (viscosity) an the colder it is, the longer it takes the air bubbles to come to the surface. Go to walmart and shake a 1qt bottle of Quaker State Ult-Dur in the clear bottle. You will see a lot of bubbles. At operating temps, bubbles come to the surface faster than in water.

Mobil 1 High Mileage does smell different, but same as others. Its the way it bubbled.. like a chemical reaction was going on. I was pouring slow of course as not to spill there was nothing that should cause that would think

Don't worry about the bubbles. The seal on the other hand, it's sad but I wouldn't put it past someone to buy the Mobil 1, fill it with cheap stuff, try to put the seal back on and return it. Do a used oil analysis when you're done and if the iron is less than 50ppm, you'll know somebody switched it with something else.

I have not gotten that far in Physics yet, but maybe it has something to do with the coanda effect. Air next to the oil stream entering the other oil is being pulled in. If you put a glass of water under the faucet, and let a small stream of water run into the glass of water, you will see air bubbles.

You have me thinking...I think I remember snapping that plastic ring..arghh..getting dark I better go check my oil...

You're a bitogger. You won't sleep until its right. Just save yourself the stress and go buy a new jug. You can tell yourself you won't worry about it but you will. It's ok, you're among friends.

The car will tell me if its not the Mobil 1 High Mileage. It will burn it and leak it.
