earlyre beat me to it, I was going to suggest "chair height" no matter what bowl you go with. It makes a bigger difference than one would think, even if you don't actually need the height at this point in time.

We are both tall and got the higher one for that reason. No complaints.

I recommend a 'handicapped' toilet. It is what SHOULD be standard.
The difference? It is taller and much more user friendly.
Standard seats come up to my ankles/calves.

"Interesting as it is, can't believe that there is a toilet forum.
Gotta say the info is food from what I've read so far.."

That has to be one of the most unfortunate typo's I've seen in a while.

.

The latest generation of "flapperless toilets" are excellent. My bro is a plumber and says they tend to have the best "flush" ability to move 1000g compared to most in the 600g range. Plus they do it using less than 2L. Youtube/google it for details.

I have done a heap of research (too much really) on toilets. The Toto Eco Drake 4.8L seems to have solid reviews, and I believe is US made.

+1....My son had two toilets replaced with Toto Eco. They are excellent low-flow units that work perfectly.

Toilet Reviews:
http://www.terrylove.com/crtoilet.htm They actually test for "solids handling" results.

TOTO is considered one of the best in the industry. I'm considering one for my workplace soon.

My last new install was 8 years ago, an American Standard (Cadet?) and it works just fine. WARNING: Some pros "claim" that big box stores stock seconds or "lesser" versions of products. I had to return my bowl because of poor casting (it sat VERY unlevel) and open 6 boxes to find a good one (I don't like to shim toilets). I should have shopped another store/brand....20/20 hindsight.

US made? Good luck. At work, my recent commercial Kohler bathroom sink was made in Vietnam. I'm not up on toilet mfg., though.

Have fun with your pooper install.

We have 2 toto's and they never have an issue. I have 2 teenage girls and you would be amazed how much tissue they throw in before flushing!!!!! I have a friend who has American standard and he keeps a plunger in his bathroom.

The Toto toilet I installed three years ago was made at their new Georgia factory (Georgia the U.S. state, not Georgia the southwest Asian country).

I've purchased several Kholer toilets for remodel jobs and never been disappointed. Terry's site is a good one. Good info there. Toto would be high on my list as well, but wasn't available at a big box store.

I'm going to chase the toto toilets. Actually saw some on amazon, but I'm going to try to shop the local guys.

May check big box for us made kohler, but not holding my breath.

Absolutely the best advice ever. Unless you are going pressure assist. If you are not concerned with noise, those pressure assisted toilet has a lot of power and can flush down almost anything.

According to my coworker's parents (around 80 something years old by now), Vietnam has very good reputation for high quality ceramic/china/porcelain crafts prior to the Vietnam war because they have very good quality clay. Maybe they are getting back in the game after all these years?

I'm wondering where do US get the clay from? That's probably the biggest factor in the quality of the toilet.

Taller the toilet, the sooner your legs will fall asleep if you like to sit there a long time and read Hot Rod magazine or such.

This discussion topic actually re-ignite my interest in replacing my caraapy Eljer 13L now...I'm gonna get 3 Nigara Simcoe 4.8L shortly (need to go home and perform the measurements RE: rough-in).

We'll see how it goes in a mnth's time.

A toilet without flappers is just not right. (Pardon me, the drought/heat is gettin' to me).
