Just a heads up and a Gearhead observation.

First of all, the movie is fantastic as a comedy. Very little wrong with it. I rate 8.5 out of 10. Tom Arnold is only weakness, and even then. Go see it. I had the pleasure of viewing it today.

And now for my observation. The vehicle at the beginning and used frequently the first half is what appears to be a 1967 (?) Lincoln Continental. The car has a built motor he says has $12k-$14k invested in it, and has 700HP so he says. Its burnouts are impressive and it is a nice car very much so. The observation is that, as clear as day, he can be seen topping off the engine with one quart of Royal Purple 15W-40 motor oil. Posting so that I can be the one initiating the discussion of how this community feels about this.

The other vehicles play average roles, you get to see what looks to be a CTS-V wagon though appears larger perhaps I do not know exactly the car, a Corvette and a Pontiac Solstice. The vehicles were not the high point of the film however were integral. Now you know. The Corvette enters .. Alright I will not tell the whole movie.

The car is very similar to the one pictures below except is black, has nicer wheels, and is a convertible. He states how the car was designed for the whole roof to fit in the trunk.

So what? I have no idea what your point is.

Product placement is how a lot of movies make $$$, I suggest you watch POM Wonderful Presents: The Greatest Movie Ever Sold that will be a HUGE eye opener as to how movies get made and how some movies make money. That said, I would watch Kristin Bell do mostly anything!

Engines with high combustion temps (boost or otherwise) might need big ring gaps in order to prevent bore damage. Also, if it big bores, and forged pistons, the motor might burn a good amount at cold startup. Finally, who knows what cylinder hone roughness was done.

Wait--is he topping the motor off in the movie? So is the beef with the product placement/advertisement; or the idea of a new-ish car burning oil?

Now, as to this car. The Royal Purple wasnt the issue, per se. I know a lot of engine builders like it, since most local speed shops appear to get good results. As to the car itself though, I wonder if a 0W-40 or 5W-40 would be better 15W-40 seems like a truck oil! I can see how the engine may need some thicker oil to deal with its power. Cubic inches and all. I assume he kept it Chrysler; even the car from the first Fast and Furious is said to have had a Chevy small block in it, fully built. So, that particular oil grade.. Thought perhaps it was unpopular for the car. ?

Could care less about product placement. Was more interested in the car engine receiving what is clear as day Rpyal Purple 15W-40 as opposed to a different grade. I dont suppose a 30 weight is ideal for that car. The explanation given makes a lot of sense as to why a 40. The 15 is my issue.

You meant to say Blue Oval/Lincoln above, correct??

I am going to see this movie tonight with my older son who is quite hot for Kristen Bell!

Honestly, this movie is a very very fun time I gave it an 8.5 out of 10 Please just be advised that there are two roughly 10-15 second full nude scenes with old people in a hotel room, so, when the two groups of people first enter the hotel room be advised for some nudity of 80-year-olds. Otherwise yes the film is a real hoot.

I dont even know who Kristen Bell is I just went for Dax and the idea of the movie lol

If anyone has yet seen this film please share your thoughts or what you thought of the cars. I had a good time watching this movie it was very very fun. Came away laughing. First movie that has hit the mark for this in awhile, IMHO.

Movie tickets cost a small fortune, redbox is $1 or less. We can wait.

I had a '66 Continental and routinely ran 15w-40 or 20w-50 in it. The old 462 never gave me a problem and car might still be around today if rot hadn't crippled it. mine had suicide doors and rear body pillars rotted so the doors were going to fall off. Sold it to someone for parts who put it in a barn back in '91.

As far as the cars, and chase scenes, it was VERY entertaining (as was watching Ms. Bell).

I was also glad they did not destroy the Grand Sport C6, only it's passenger side mirror.

The Conti was WAYYYY cool, but would have been sicker yet with a T56, or 6060 in it instead of the built(?) C6(?), or whatever slushbox it had with the slapstick, quarter mile shifter on top.

Did that desert racing buggy have an LSx in it, or something else?

The basic premise of the movie was a little off, since I don't believe that the Justice Dept. would keep paying for the services of U.S. Marshalls to keep someone in the witness protection program if the criminals they were testifying against were let go, even due to technicalities, especially if they were NOT; the mob, the cartels, or any other BIG organized crime rings (but I could be wrong about this)?
