Then worry about clutch wear instead. No clutches to wear in Prius.

I think new AT will cost you more than new battery.

Lets get real for a change.

Do you have a link in support of this assertion?

Here

And Here

And, of course, Here too

HesusCristo people. I'm not anti hybrid. I'm enamored with the technology, I love the MPG's and the reliability of the Prius. And, yes, I'd like to see them become more fun to drive.

Maybe my conclusions are wrong (I've been wrong before) . Maybe 65% of hybrid owners don't purchase another because they need SUV's for growing families. We all know that a family of 6 won't fit in a Prius. So, I retract claim that people don't like driving hybrids simply because they are not fun to drive. I'll re-state it like this: I don't find driving a Prius fun or enjoyable and I imagine there are others who feel similarly (whether they know it or not) .

Thanks for being honest.

Agreed. At least as far as reliability goes.

Driving FUN however is very personal. That's why there's more than one car to choose from. I do not support anyone taking away choices.

There is an SFE package rated at 28/40.

BTW, the Focus "automatic" is a Dual Clutch Gearbox.

They are efficient, more efficient that an slushbox and better than a true manual in the hands of most people (which is why a Golf TDI is rated higher with a DSG than 6 speed)

Priced an automatic transmission for most anything 90's and up lately? Id say thats not much over average...

My mother has 2 Prius a 200(8?) Touring model and a 201(1?) which I think is a package 5. She loves both of them and they get over 50 around town less on the highway (the newer one is better in this respect). She hasn't had any major issues with either and the older one has a good number of miles on it. I've driven them both a good bit. They aren't bad cars but I feel both are underpowered (the earlier one is better) and very appliance like. The newer one in particular is devoid of personality. That isn't necessarily a bad thing, depends on what you want.

Our TDI gets 48.5 on the highway, and it still has low miles on it. (They are known for getting better after they get 10-15,000 miles) and it still gets very good around town (mid 30's). It has excellent power and the torque makes it feel quicker than it is. Overall the driving experience is much like a "normal" car.

For mother the Prius are the right choice, for us the Jetta is.

OP good luck and enjoy your new purchase...

Im the OP (waves hand in the crowd of people) lol.

I just want to say something/vent to clear something up.

I dont care about cars (Focus, in this case) that get 40mpg on the highway. I barely do any highway driving.

I really care about cars that get super city mileage. In this case, the Prius wins.

I like the new Focus and all and we actually own a newer ford (2010 Escape) but it really irks me when people say "oh the ____________ gets 45mpg!) Yeah sure it does - on the highway in perfect conditions when the stars are aligned and you are going down a grade. In the city, the 45mpg car gets 28mpg. What the heck good is that for those of us that do 90% city driving? Of course a 50mpg+ city mpg hybrid is going to be #1 best pick for a lot of people.
