It's a trip...oil loves trips, as the engine is up to temp...for hours, no cold starts and short drives for all of those hours, and you aren't wailing on it.
A 1,000 mile return trip is 2 more cold starts, and a chance to boil off any fuel and water.
Which is fuel and water that you don't likely have, as your commute is also a decent trip
Paper (like filters and the like) don't like prolonged temps, but are pretty well established in the automotive field as current practice.
So if you change the oil pre-trip the new oil will get an easy ride back to the commute.
If you change the oil post trip, then early on in the trip, the water and fuel will have burned off, and maybe a top-off later, you'll still be in a good place...
1000 miles isn't anymore preparing the mules and packing the wagon, have a nice trip, and change when you get back.
