I know that there was a thread recently started discussing Honda's break-in oil. However, I have two questions for owners of recent Hondas.

1) At what mileage did you change the factory fill?
2) Are you experiencing an oil consumption?

Michael

Changed the factory oil on my '03 Accord at 2,900 miles, a little before the recommended 3,750 first oil change (V-6, "severe conditions").

Since then I've followed the 3,750 OCI and have seen very little oil consumption ... less than 1/2 quart per OCI.

2003 Honda cr-v, changed factory fill at the recommended 5k miles to Mobil 1 0w-20. 28k now on vehicle. No oil consumption.

01' Accord 4 cyl-changed factory fill at 2000 miles and I don't burn a drop between 4k changes.

Thanks for the responses so far, please keep them coming. By the way, is there anyone else here who changed their factory fill at 2000 miles (or earlier)?

Michael

'00 Odyssey, 3.5L V6 VTEC:
1st Oil Change: 3740 miles
Used Valvoline 5W-30 for 55K miles, then switched to 5W-30 M1. Now have 61K miles.

'03 Civic, 1.7L 4-Cyl, VTEC:
1st Oil Change: 3900 miles
Used 5W-30 M1 since then. Now have 8300 miles.

No oil consumption or leaks in either car.

742 miles. No problems whatsoever. In fact the most recent UOAs look excellent as I'm trying to wash all the copper out of the engine as fast as possible

2003 V6 Accord:
1) Changed factory fill at 5,900 with Honda dealer 5W20 + filter , 2nd oil change 7,519 miles later with M1 0W20 + Honda filter
2) No consumption at 17k, will change M1 at 18k (5K OCI)

2004 Acura TL

1) Changed factory 5w-20 at 3,300 miles. Sent sample to Blackstone and Terry Dyson. You saw the report on one of the other threads. Filled with Amsoil 5w-20
2) Changed out the Amsoil 5w-20 at 6,800 miles as per Terry's suggestion, and refilled with Amsoil 5w-20. I'll sample at 10,000 and send to Blackstone and Terry. I did not use LC at this change, but I am using FP to get the insolubles down.

Changed the factory fill 5w-20 on my K20A3 engine at 5,000 miles. The oil was in good shape with a TBN of 4 and the oil filter had very little metal in it. It fact, I had trouble finding any metal in the filter. My oil consumption is about .5qt/5000 miles.

'04 Accord V6

1) Factory out, 2,900; GTX 5w-20 in.
2) 6,800, GTX 5w-20.
Now at 7,940 and NO oil ever needed. (plan UOA here)

AMSOil 5w-20, Mobil 1 0w-20 or Syntec at 9,000? Still "comparing" and hoping for more information.

about 4,000. No oil consumption except for pz dino 5w20 at 3600 miles (added a little). MC 5w20, m1 0w30,0w20,5w30, amsoil 5w20,torco 5w20. 5,000miOCI or greater ...not a drop. 02 civic 1.7ex currentlh 56,000 miles.

02 Accord 4 Cyl. Changed at 6K miles then every 3K with Pennzoil 5W-20. No oil consumption at all.
Current Mileage 36K.

2001 Civic Lx (my Dads)

Changed out at 750 miles, then at 3k miles both with Pennzoil 5w/30 Dino. Ran Pennzoil at 4k OCI up to 20k miles. Now running Mobil 1 5w/30 with one change every year. (approx 7-8k miles).

No adding of oil between changes needed... (can not see the level go down on the oil dipstick)

2004 Accord 2.4L - factory fill changed to M1 0W20 @ 3200 miles. Changed manual transaxle lube to Red Line at the same time.

Ran M1 5K, changed oil & filter, same oil. First 3200 miles 3/4 quart used none since.

On my wife's 2000 Civic I changed the factory fill at 400 miles. It doesn't use any noticeable amount of oil at all (not even 100ml worth between changes)

Changed the factory fill on my 03 Odyssey at 5000 miles. Ran dino 5W-20 for another 5K, noticed a little consumption. Ran M1 5W-30 for 5K (no consumption), now 6500 miles into a run on M1 0W-20 (will go to 7500) and no consumption so far.
