That scientist had lots of guts releasing the tires from that vantage point!

Question:- The spinning tire must be self centering because I am having very hard time understanding how it remains right in the middle of the track all the way through. I mean when I go bowling, half the time ball ends up the gutter :-)

Any physics majors wanting to explain?

It's called gyroscopic effect, if you would ride sport bikes you would know how hard it is to actually lean over a bike at more than 100mph

Indeed, that explains why it goes in the straight line. But then it would be *extremely* critical to have the initial angle to be absolutely correct.

I wonder if he were to drop a bowling ball from those slides, would it go in the straight like or head for the sidewalls? Is ball affected similarly by the gyroscopic effect?
