Tire replacement and TPMS

Yes, most people agree that original TPMS sensors on new vehicles last about 10 years, but many aftermarket sensors have batteries that only last 6-7 years. Sometimes that makes it a tough call on when to replace them.
My first set of TPMS lasted 9 years - I was 9.5 years on the second set.

DT charges $72 to replace one TPMS - about $300 for 4 of them without replacing the tires.

If I can buy 4 TPMS for ~~$80 and have them replaced when I get tires for $0 extra it seems like a good idea if your current sensors are even 6 years old.

If my tires are down to 5/32 (from 11 - 12 /32 and I needed a TPMS replaced I would most likely buy new tires early.

Good questions. Can’t wait to see what my independent shop charges.
My local told me $65 when I got new tires last year, but charged me $45. Had another sensor battery go bad a couple months ago and they wanted $85 to replace the sensor and basically suggested that I drive around with the tpms light on until it was time for new tires and take care of it then.

I figure if I have one going i might as well have all four changed.

If they were charging $70 to replace one - and $140 to replace 2 and $210 to replace 3 and $280 to do all 4 -

I would try and negotiate it down to get all 4 for $210 or whatever - if they wouldn't give me a break to do all I would just do the bad one.

My daytime running light burned out - I had a new spare left over from a different vehicle - same part number.

It was a pain to replace - cut the back of my hand - but I got it done.

I said next time one burns out all 10 of the front lights are getting replaced.

This was almost 2 years ago - I should order the bulbs - that way I wouldn't ever need them!

Going through the same questions as everyone. I'll be getting new winter tires on spare rims for a 2021 Tucson Value Edition. The sensors in the rims I got are all dead according to my Autel 508. Tires probably being put on at Costco, maybe in 2 weeks while on sale still. Costco wants $65 each installed for new ones from them. I won't be able to check programming until November when the Tucson is back up here. 3 different Hyundai dealers and websites list 52933-C1100 as the OEM by VIN and they want $141 each o_O .

Walmart I think is $30 each installed for Bartec ones from all the searches/posts.

TPMS.com has these choices based on part#.

TPMSDIRECT has this.

Rock Auto has these choices.

Since you have the Autel 508 programmer, I would suggest that you buy the Autel MX sensors (w/ metal or rubber stems to match the current sensors on the spare rims) and have COSTCO install them unprogrammed with the new tires. When your son/DIL return in November, scan the OEM TPMS sensors currently on the Tucson and clone the serial numbers to the Autel MX sensors with the new tires. The wheels then are interchangeable between the summer/winter tires without any relearning required. I used this process recently with the Autel MX sensors on my Nissan Frontier.

Correct, WalMart charges $28.88 + tax per TPMS sensor which includes re-balancing each tire and relearning the new TPMS serial numbers. IME, they will not agree to clone the old serial numbers to the new sensors.

Walmart has TPMS $28.99 each & free installation. Had all four on 2 vehicles replaced past 2 weeks. Next cheapest I found $174.00 per tire installed. Other shops much higher.

What type of Ford?
The last time I bought Motorcraft sensors from RockAuto, I could tell with certainty they were reboxed Schrader units

I just bought a Denso for a '23 Hyundai, it was the OE Continental sensor with the Hyundai/Kia logo scrubbed off

If you DIY the programming, just supply the 4 new sensors to your tire installer

BH SENS RDE023V43 @ $18.51
Or
SCHRADER 29020 @ $23.79

I've had good luck with both
You can have your own trigger tool for $8

Tire Pressure Sensor Training
NOTE: In the following procedure, TPM Activation Tool (204-363) must be used.
NOTE: The tire pressure sensor training procedure must be done on a single vehicle, in an area without Radio Frequency (RF) noise and at least 3 ft. (1 m) away from any other vehicle equipped with TPM system. RF noise is generated by electrical motor and appliance operation, cellular telephones and remote transmitters, power inverters and portable entertainment equipment.
NOTE: A new tire pressure sensor is shipped in an OFF mode (or battery saver mode), and must be turned ON before it can be trained. To turn the sensor on, inflate the tire to the recommended inflation pressure and wait at least 2 minutes, then continue with the sensor training procedure.
Turn ignition switch to OFF position, then press and release brake pedal.
Turn ignition switch from OFF position to the RUN position 3 times, ending in RUN position. Do not wait more than one minute between each key cycle.
Press and release the brake pedal.
Turn ignition switch to OFF position.
Turn ignition switch from OFF position to the RUN position 3 times, ending in RUN position. Do not wait more than one minute between each key cycle.
NOTE: The horn will sound once and the tire pressure warning light will flash if train mode has been entered successfully (if equipped, the message center displays "TRAIN LF TIRE").
Place TPM Activation Tool (204-363) on the left front tire sidewall at the tire valve stem. Press the test button on the Activation Tool. The horn will sound briefly to indicate that the tire pressure sensor has been recognized by the SJB.
NOTE: It may take up to 6 seconds to activate a tire pressure sensor. During this time, the activation tool must remain against the sidewall of the tire.
NOTE: If a sensor does not respond to the activation tool, attempt to activate the same sensor using activation tool. If the sensor still does not respond, move the vehicle to rotate the wheels at least 1/4 of a turn and attempt to activate the same sensor again.
NOTE: If the SJB does not recognize any one of the 4 tire pressure sensors during the 2 minute time limit for each sensor response, the horn will sound twice and the message center (if equipped) will display "TIRE NOT TRAINED REPEAT". The training procedure must be repeated from the beginning.
Within 2 minutes after the horn sounds, place the activation tool on the right front tire sidewall -180 degrees from the valve stem for strap and cradle type sensors or at the valve stem for valve stem-mounted sensors. Repeat procedure for right rear and left rear tires, in that order.
NOTE: On vehicles with Dual Rear Wheels, activate the inner wheel sensors first, then the outer sensors.
NOTE: Do not wait more than 2 minutes between training each sensor. If the wait time is more than 2 minutes the SJB will stop and the training procedure must be repeated from the beginning.
When the tire training procedure is complete, the message center (if equipped) will display "TIRE TRAINING COMPLETE". For vehicles not equipped with a message center, successful completion of the training procedure will be verified by turning the ignition switch to the OFF position without the horn sounding. If the horn sounds twice when ignition is turned off, the training procedure was not successful.
