Tire picks in 215/45R17?

if it's easy enough to change, the OE bar up front with the matrix rear will solve your issues.... better tyre likely will not, though you'll be going slightly faster before it happens.
It was a pain to get the front sway bar swapped out but now the car handles rock solid. It’s not as skittish as it was.

I bet it still will be great with just the rear bar. and ultimately faster.
It’s rock solid with both on, and tires inflated to stock pressure. I was running +3psi over and it did get a bit squirrelly in crosswinds.

Another tire thought - Firestone Firehawk A/S V2. It does have Michelin-style zig-zag 3D siping and not much more than the Kumho option.

I agree with @The Critic, PS4 is a great choice. He suggested AS, which is a fantastic option, especially considering it seems like you are looking for all seasons. But my understanding of Ca weather was that you could drive with summer tires all year around. If you are not driving interstate, perhaps you could go with regular PS4 rather than AS version

Continental DWS06. They are similar to Pilot Sport for less money.

General G-MAX 07 would be my budget choice. Continental does not cheap out with General like Michelin does with Uniroyal.

OK, while America’s Tire did price match Walmart on two dirt cheap but discontinued tires - Falken Ziex 950(basically the Sumitomo HTR A/S P02) and Bridgestone Turanza QuietTrack, I did check their website today. $100 off Michelin(CC2, PS4AS and Defender 2) and a Pirelli(P7 AS Plus 3) if ordered online, $80 off the Conti ControlContact SRS+ and $110MIR on the Conti SportContact DWS06+. Now the “nicer” tires are in play.

My head says Conti if we’re talking dollars and cents, my heart says Michelin.

DWS06+ tires on an '09 Prius is like Channel on rosie o'donnell
Totally get the humor.

But have you seen how a lot of Prius drivers drive? Those cars can accelerate pretty briskly and I’ve known a few to use it. No worse a choice than literally ever other bmw following the speed limit to Publix. I’d recommend them too!

I’m a 90% yes on the Michelin PAS4, unless there’s a compelling reason to get the DWS06 or ControlContact SRS+. To me, you can’t go wrong with Michelin, with a few exceptions.

I only wished Costco will install anything outside of a stock size. The price there($735 before tax) is a smokin’ deal since install is included.

Frankly it’s a toss up between PAS4 and DWS06 - with maybe a slight edge towards the Michelin in long term balance/integrity. I have had vehicles with both. They both are a little soft for me in the sidewall - the vehicle I had the DWS06 on later got Bridgestone potenza A/S which I preferred as it was more direct and still fabulously grippy with soft compound. The vehicle with the PAS4 I didn’t have for very long, but they were sure footed for certain.

DWS06+ is excellent tire, except frustrating soft sidewalls. If you like to push car, go Michelin.

My experience with them is on a Lexus LS430 - the selling dealer installed a set of Goodyear Eagle RS-As. It needed tires after having the traction control kick in on a dry road out of the blue and again on a slightly wet freeway. The Eagles were hard as steel. The parents said get tires ASAP, but only from Costco - I was considering the Yokohama Avid Ascend GT for it. I was looking at the the options Costco had - it was between the Potenza RE980AS or the PSAS4. QuietTracks or CC2/Primacy MXM4/Primacy A/S would have been more appropriate for an luxobarge.

It transformed the car as soon as I drove away from Costco. It made a big, lazy Lexus sedan feel almost kitten-like. I imagine either the DWS06 or PSAS4 will make a lowly Prius a little more engaging to drive. A lot of Prii I see are on the cheapest Chinesium - LingLong/Leao, WestLake, Advanta or Sailun I’ve seen around here - lots of them are Ubers or Doordashes here.

Both tires will be overkill for Prius. But, then, why not?
