I'm looking to buy some bridgestone potenza tires that have 1900 miles on them. Only thing there off a 2003 nissan 350z which was bought new. Owner does not drive the car. The car itself has 1900 miles. Would It be safe to buy these tires? I'm also the getting rims. He says he moves car once a week to prevent flat spots. I've seen the tires and they look great

If the price is right I would buy them and not worry about the year of the tires. I see classic cars on the Barrett autions all the time, original tires. Your not planning on racing in Daytona with it are you? They would be fine. I bought alot of used tires that were older, they were ussually new take offs and when I see a good deal on tires, Ill scoop them up even if I dont need them and they may sit in the barn for years, i have yet to have any problems with tires because of age. Thats about 7 sets, 0 problems.

Stored indoors away from UV? Great!

Near a source of ozone? Iffy.

Armor All'd? Probably not. (hard to judge)

Tires do have a life span, unrelated to mileage.

Michelin recommends new tires at least every eight years (this may be biased because they are a tire company, but I've heard the same from mechanics)

Rubber is porous, so certain things get absorbed and released from them over time.

On my 95 seville with 39.000 miles the tires are original and still look excellent no dry rot at all and still have around 75% tread wear left.
The make of the tire is michelin..

I know even though they still look new and have no cracks or dry rot that is noticeable i am on borrowed time and i dont know what they look like inside
The car is always garage kept in heated garage

What if I took them to a tire shop and have them inspect the tire inside?

If MICHELIN says 8 yrs then, in theory, you got plenty of time to use 'em.I would'nt even take it to a shop. They'll say "seven years ,no way we'll sell you new ones though". Just deflate to check for tread separation or bubbles.Run your hand along the tread surface too,if no defects, you're good for your alloted time.

I'll think you will be alright

there won't be anything to see inside......

if your getting a great price, scoop them up without a second thought!
