Tipping at Fast Food Places

Even at a sit down restaurant the prices are too high. I was at an IHOP recently and breakfast for two was $50.
I haven't been in an ihop in probably 30 years, but don't see how that is possible. Even a big breakfast around here is $13,

I used to give a $5 tip when breakfast for two was under $20 (not that long ago). But looking at $50 for the same meal I'm not feeling very generous.
Feel your pain. Around here breakfast for the wife and I at various local diners are from 38-$42 for 2 of us.

Apologies if I already told this story…as a waiter at a motor inn we cringed when we saw a tour bus pull in from Quebec (was gonna be busy and zero tips) 😡

I don't go to the big chains. We have a local place with 5 locations. The biggest breakfast meal is about $15 and would feed two normal people so $~30 for two meals. We drink water and I imagine another $5-6 for those who have to have some sort of hot or cold flavored beverage. My 3 egg omelet, hashbrowns and a biscuit literally bigger than your fist is $12. When I go I eat the other food and bring the biscuit home. Cut in half it makes two more breakfasts with honey. So ~$4 each all said and done. No way I'd live in CA unless someone was paying me a minimum of 7 figures a month to do so.

I cringe anytime I see those buses at a NatPark knowing there's going to be a bunch of annoying disrespectful certain type of tourists.

It seems some restaurants have kept their pricing and service in check, others are gouging and providing very poor service. The big chains seem to be the worst. We have a few restaurants on rotation, pricing is great, and we tip well so we always get great service from familiar servers.

As for fast food, Jersey Mike's is all I'll do and that's only a couple times a year...won't step foot in anywhere else.

Went there once and was immediately turned off by the payment screen they show you when placing your order and presenting you with a suggested tip amount. First off, I just placed the order and haven't even gotten the food letalone taken a bite. What if if it takes 20 minutes or the food is overcooked? Can I ask for my tip back? Second, there are no servers there so everybody makes a regular full scale wage, not a tipped wage. No need for a tip anymore then the workers at the supermarket or Walmart expecting a tip.

They're all asking for tips, it's the entire point of this thread! 🤦‍♂️

Never had that issue when I paid cash.

Number 13 Mikes way for me....

Took my daughter to a new 5 Guys for lunch. 1 small and 1 regular burger, 1 small fries, 2 small drinks…. $35 ,no I didn’t tip. We barely went out to eat before covid, haven’t since. They can get their tip out of the $35.

I ate there once and was not impressed, and for what they charge I can go to a real restaurant or steakhouse and get a real burger and fries.
