Most cars have wipers that rest against the glass when not in use. If you notice, the wipers will usually come to rest on a downstroke. The blades lean toward one direction.
Now you leave the car parked for hours and the rubber wipers stay leaned in that direction. Then when you go to use the wipers, they chatter going up your window because they "want" to stay in the position they have gotten used to.
Instead of the blade leaning back and forth as it's designed, they lean a lot going down the window, but the blade is perpendicular going up the window. This is what causes the chatter.
So my TIP is this: Whenever you think of it, pick up your blades and lean them in the opposite direction from the way they normally rest. If you remember half of the time, it should be just about right
