Most cars have wipers that rest against the glass when not in use. If you notice, the wipers will usually come to rest on a downstroke. The blades lean toward one direction.

Now you leave the car parked for hours and the rubber wipers stay leaned in that direction. Then when you go to use the wipers, they chatter going up your window because they "want" to stay in the position they have gotten used to.

Instead of the blade leaning back and forth as it's designed, they lean a lot going down the window, but the blade is perpendicular going up the window. This is what causes the chatter.

So my TIP is this: Whenever you think of it, pick up your blades and lean them in the opposite direction from the way they normally rest. If you remember half of the time, it should be just about right

hehe i got a van that sits outside and the back wiper is really shot..its very flat..i tried what u did but really heheh its been weatherd for about 4 years and wont go into the position i want. haha its funnie, if i can add to ur tip you should wet the blade before you try and reposition it, this way it will be more flexable...

in my home contry we take off the blades when not in use..though if u turn on the wipers ur screwed...lol

I've seen a friend who had an accessory which is spring loaded & clips on to the wiper & lifts it off the windshield. When you operate the wipers, the clip lifts off. Neat idea. Except when not in use, the wiper blades seem to teeter-totter on the windshield while driving, very annoying.

Another vote for Rain-X

Also I fill the washer fluid tank with Rain-X De-icer fluid (Orange color). It does make the windshield really clean
