When changing the gear oil in a manual transmission and rear differential with threaded filler pugs make certain those filler plugs threads are not stuck so the plug cannot be removed to refill before draining the fluid.

I have seen and heard of this happening to a few people in the past.

Why do I see you in the driveway cursing at the plug that just won't come out!!!

I have a stuck filler plug! It's on my wife's 1988 Prelude Manual Transmission.

The problem is that the formerly 11/16" plug head is now about a 5/8" round head

Does anyone have a suggestion as to how to remove this? How 'bout one of those Craftsman adjustable, no-scratch, grippers; or would a screw extraction be more appropriate?

Agree with the pipe wrench idea. By the way, they make little pipe wrenches that would be perfectly suited for your problem. Spray penetrating

oil around the plug, also.

Ditto on the pipe wrench. Lightly tap on the fitting with a hammer before trying to loosen it. Also tap on the wrench to get it to loosen. The vibrations from the tapping will loosen it easier than will a steady torque. (Same principle as an impact wrench)

I had to use a pipe wrench on the bleeder valves for the rear brake calipers on my wifes car. The monkey who bleed the brakes before me tightened them down so much that a regular wrench wouldn't work.
