This is from a 1991-1996 Ford Escort LX, and supposedly the car ran for years like this:

Video or it doesn't happen.

I kinda giggle at this sort of hoax though. Just plausible enough to argue over.

This is one of my favorites:

Dummy.

You would need exactly the same amount of friction on top and bottom sprockets as it would slide microns on every revolution. The cam one is 2x the size of the crank, not likely at all.

Still a funny picture. And a very tired belt.

OTOH this pic of my volvo is for realsies, I dropped a screw down the timing cover and darn if it didn't make a racket chewing things up.

There is no way it ran like that for years. One pico-meter (take any difference you want, however small) multiplied by thousands of revolutions per minute, it's gonna get way out of whack very quickly.

Sorry to say, but like the video said, it is all a bunch of bull's hit.

Funny thing is even if it had 32 AA battery, you would still be overpaying because those heavy duty cells can be purchased at less than 10 cents/cell at discount stores!

Look out now, common sense is getting in the way of all those oohs & awwhs... I agree, it didn't run farther than the end of the drive way in the pictured condition and that would no doubt be at idle... Fist blip of the throttle and it'd be so far out of time, the chance it would still be running are zero & none...

As with most of these hoaxes, there is some truth to it. I used to have a few 6cell lanterns and they used to sell caddies that you would put 4 D cells in to make a 6v battery.
