Dang THAT's honey boo boo? I had heard the name and never thought it was a kid.
Yeah the fat roll grabbing was the 1st thing I noticed. Gross.

(OT a bit: American child stars somehow don't have the same 'normalcy' that British child stars seem to maintain ..

I once saw an interview with whoever played "Hermione" in Harry Potter. She was so humble, classy, intelligent, and hardly behaved like a 'star' in that interview...just like the other kids in the HP movies..IDK why, but there was a HUGE difference in their appearances and just general manner)

^Emma Watson.

There seems to be a very different dynamic with English performers. A friend of mine states that is because they are required to be trained in their country. I can't comment on that. I used to say that we did not have "royals" in the U.S. so we treat our celebrities like royalty, but don't the British do the same thing? Look at all the "Sirs" and "Dames" they have that are actors.

I wouldn't call Honey Boo Boo a star, but OK.

The show that she's on (Toddlers and Tiaras) is one of those trailer trash shows. The producers go out of their way to find the most abnormal characters to make the show entertaining. If you're not somehow weird, you don't get on the show. They don't want someone who's "humble, classy, intelligent."

Oh no - I didn't mean just this specific show in particular, but just in general US child stars that have starred in big time movies here who appear to somehow 'lose it' and can't handle celebrity and sort of crash and burn even when they're really young..

Shirley Temple was extraordinary - scary good way beyond her years.
And she was sweet, not aggressive , belligerent, or foul. None of the disgusting 'attitude' many have today.

"moral degradation"? Your rose-colored glasses need some cleaning. At the time of Shirley Temple there were people drinking from separate water fountains based on the color of their skin. The murder rate was about double what it is now, and overall crime rates were much higher.

But please, keep on pining for the "olden days"... BTW, there was plenty of stupid in popular culture at that time as well (and at all points in history). Picking the dumbest parts of pop culture and using that to characterize an entire age is just ridiculous.

Pop is way correct about moral degradation nowadays. Teacher's most common complaint in the '50s was chewing gum in class. Now, Drugs, murder, and rape [and rap] are daily occurrences in school. Hollywood and TV was tightly controlled for content. There is too much too list.
And since you played the race card, note that there is no Miss White America, no National White History month. No white POTUS gets 96% of the white vote. White people do not choose to speak a special separate dialect. Etc., etc..

not according to this

You also need to consider that now, more than half of all crimes are not reported. The people know that the police won't do anything, so they don't bother reporting it. I remember reading the police blotter in the news paper every week. In the 1960s the police would make out a report if someone went into someone's side gate and stole their returnable bottles. The police don't even come out for a burglary now days. You have to fill out a report online, and if it isn't right the reject it.

Now all the public water fountains are broken, so nobody can get water.

One day some of us may realize that the "good ole days" are here and now.

Living in the past is a real disadvantage to your quality of life. Look forward.... that's where life is.
