2007 honda accord wifes car baby hauler ! P215-50-17 @ 51,XXX miles it still has the factory Mich pilot HX MXM4. Its not to the wear bars yet but its close enuff for me to notice and start my hunt. To replace the factory tires im looking at $199.00 each at tire rack, considering other options as $800.00+ right before christmas stinks. This car is the family car so performance *speed rating* wont be a issue.Car rarely see's over 70mph. Im looking for longevity, all season performance *grip* comfort/ride quality, and not nearly as important but a quite tire would be nice. suggestions ? first hand experience? Im not trusting the local tire shops to hock there house brands for commisions..
Much thanks
Otis.

I can't imagine any tire for a regular PC being worth $200.

I bought Coopers Lifeliners for about $70/piece and got over 60K miles on them.

I'm very happy with my Kumho Solus KR21's

Lots of folks I know are very happy with the Kumho Ecsta ASX and LX Platinum. Reasonably priced.

Anything Bridgestone Potenza (RE960AS=awesome) or Turanza is generally very good for handling/traction, but a little noisier in my experience.

For snowy/wet pavement I was UBER-PLEASED with my Continental ExtremeContact tires.

im on DT AND TR right now looking, just got off the phone with the local Big o tire and they were hateing on the generals.. they were pushing sumitomo LSV'S at around $613 for install and all the warranty, allignment, bells and whistles..

I suppose i should havementioned in Indiana for those that dont know we have around 7 months of good to fair weather and 5 months of fair to snowy unpleasant weather.. Dec,Jan,Feb, and ive seen Mar,April with snow slush.. so the all season i mentioned earlier is important.

What about the Continental ContiProContact? The V-rated are $115 (special) & H-rated are $131 on Tirerack. I've bought 2 sets (of four) of these. One for my '02 Accord & 1 set for an '05 Matrix. They have been good tires.

Remember that sales folks may push their high margin tires & put your interests at the bottom of the pile.

My friend has Fuzion Hri's which cost $89 each in your size at TR. She is very happy with them.

OT: Why are basic family cars like Accords now coming with performance sized tires which are far more expensive? My Buick has 205/70/15's which are about half the price of some of these tires.

I have been running the General Exclaim UHP summer performance tire for about a year and loving them.

There are alot of Bitogers who love the Altimax.

IF you look at tirerack's survey they come in 2nd to Michelins but are $107 instead of $199.

My guess is Big O has a bigger profit margin on the Sumitomo's than the Generals.

This is the thread on Altimax a while back.

i completely agree.. there is no reason my wifes car needed this size tire /rim.. but she liked it.. we bought it.. end of story. I cant say too much, My silverado came with factory 20's buying A/T tires is NOT cheap... I reading some pretty negative reviews on her factory tires, Im wondering if its the second set its had ? we bought the car used this past spring.. so im at a loss for knowledge.. P.S. I DONT trust tire salesmen..

$107 per tire for the generals, not including road hazard or shipping.. local wallmart installs for $10 per tire (cheaper than the local $20 tire shops).. im likeing what im reading on the Generals

Oh I forgot to include my "tire lecture":

They keep you in control and on the road.

Please don't skimp on tires. It is the cheapest insurance you can get, so get the very best you can afford.

Please don't skimp on tires.

If you like all-season tire that performs well in foul weather, Continental ExtremeContact DWS is one of the best. Take a look at Tire Rack Winter Testing at the Arctic Circle, it performs better than other
Ultra High Performance All-Season such as Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus, Goodyear Eagle F1 All Season ...

well, Im wondering about the "snow factor" in recent years we have had 4-6 inches fairly regular in the winter, and "week sidewalls" ?? we are moving to the country wich is approximately 15 min outside of town, down a few county roads "not exactly glas smooth" and one gravel road.. our new private drive is approx 1/8 mile long and is also gravel with elivation changes.. i wonder how much this would factor into this tires performance..
life is easier with my 4x4 and a/t tires...

im VERY intrested in these.. i like the reviews.. and these seem much more up my alley as far as a all season tire goes ! thank for pointing these out..
its funny, ive called big o tire 3 times asking about pricing of tires ordered in, all three times different brand tires, and sales people.. everytime i get "we wouldnt recomend those tires".. and then they revert back to there house brand.. sad.

Do you have Discount Tire or America's Tire stores in your area ? They have much better customer services than Big-O tires. Go to discounttire.com to find if they have local tore in your area.

in my first post i stated what i was after, i have only been reading and taking suggestions from others on what they would reccomend, after i explained what i wanted. For our area i really liked the suggestion of the conti extreme contact DWS'S that looks right up my alley for the cars intended use.. will probably order tonight.
