Tight fit with Fram

I bought a regular Fram air filter at Wally's today. When I installed it it was a really tight fit to get the top of the air box down and in place to snap the retaining clips on to hold it together. This is on a flat panel air filter for a Dodge 3.9 V6.

I got it together without too much trouble, took it back apart and checked it against the STP that I had before, Fram definitely has a little bit thicker (better?) foam seal around it. The STP had a definite looser fit to the air box. I told myself that a tight seal and tight fit to the air box is a good thing and is what I needed in an air filter, then reinstalled it again. Am I right?? Anyone else have this problem with a Fram flat panel air filter?

The Fram flat panel air filter for my car fits just fine. They look good and are nice and cheap.

That is one reason I like the fram air filters, Although the one for my toyota does not have that nice thick foamy rubber.

i had a purolator that fil really loose on a 95 cadillac seville . After that i went oem and the fit was good.. I have used fram air filters in the past and had no problems

I had the same issue with the fram on my Jeep. It was REALLY tight, almost too tight to install.....almost. I woundlt want it any tighter, but its a great seal.

I like Fram air filters.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing, a really tight seal on the air filter and air box is good too. The Purolators, STP and ProSelects I have used before all had that loose fit to the foam edge of the filter. I wonder if the tight seal will help my engine run any better, even if it is just a really small improvement.

Thr Fram air filter looks good, it fit the air box perfectly and looks to be strong and well-made. Plus it costs about 2 to 4 bucks less than the others and I didn't have to drive clear across town to buy it either.

The fram for my car is about half the price of the other brand I bought for it once.

I don't know if it's psychological but my truck *seemed* to run just a bit better today with the tight-sealing Fram in the air box. It's good to get even a slight gain from a part that costs less. I'll probably just stick with the Fram from now on, provided Walmart doesn't jack the price up.

A Fram I bought for my ZX2 had way too much seal. I had to trim it to fit in the air box.
