Mama is 83, Will she forget the next 2 oil changes? Yes its true she is driving. Thats an issue amongst my siblings. To get to the point. Her 03 Caravan that looks good Ticks after warm up. It sounds to be valve train related. I know it could be the cam. I'm optimistic. It's a little tapping.You could call it a click. I know this. Are the lifters adjustable? Never mind I know I'm in the wrong forum section for that Q. I have flushed the oil adding Risoline for 200mi prior the last change 76xxxmi. I added GTX 5w30 and the oil is dirty agian 78xxxmi. This vehicle works very well but the tick tells me something is not tight. It is a 3.3L engine and a good runner, not that many miles. I want to quiet the valve train and and get it right. it got free oil changes from Dodge up to 70xxxmi on time.

My brother has about the same van but a '01 grand caravan with the 3.3 he just picked up i had to do plugs and wires had a bad miss with a tick,fixed the miss and for the tick we added Mobil 1 High Mileage and MMO to give it a boost jump start at cleaning,up to yesterday he stated the tick is still there but considerably more quite i told him to keep running it it's probably doing some cleaning at the lifters,if not Chrysler said it'll need lifters.

Does it have a rocker shaft or are we into the future too far for that or stud mount fulcrums? Not sure. I dont think this motor is that dirty inside based on the oil fill visual on the plastic VC cover. I could pull the frt cover and see. maybe pull on pushrods to locate slack. Its just not very loud and a friendly tick that could go on forever. I just can't stand it. Mama can get another new car but this one should go the distance before she hangs up the driving privliges. Lifter replacement can be somewhat involved & I'v been a professional mechanic for 30 yrs. I work on trucks that have excellent warranties and I keep the machines mounted on them going. Garbage trucks. No lie. With cars I get out of the loop except for mine. The status quo is bliss.

I'm thinking 10/30 synthetic so she won't have to bother with it for a while. QS is on sale til tomorrow.

Im amazed at how oil can "Quiet" Valve Tick. I remember a posted said Mobil 1 had the lifters a little "Noisy," and Royal Purple made them Super quiet...
I cant see how this is not 100% Vehicle specific.
Valve Tick does stop when engine is warm, does not it? I have found "Ticking" to be the Exhaust, in many cases.

I have read that these Chrysler 3.3 engines often develope valve train noise. Its remotely possible the exhaust could cause this I am not going in that direction. ON start up the engine is quiet no clicking at all. even after warm enough for normal idle speed but not up to temp it remains quiet. This clicking does not occur until the engine developes some heat in it. After dropping the winter 5w30 out of there should make a difference. The Quaker State Synthetic Q-torque 10w30 was on sale & will change out this weekend.
Ticking when hot makes me think either the oil is too thin, exhaust leak, or fuel injector tick.
Perhaps a high mileage 10w30 might be an inexpensive cosmetic solution to try, along with a bottle or Gumout Regain in the fuel tank.

Possibly use some Techron/Redline in the fuel for 1-2 tankfuls. I did this along with Lucas UCL. This quieted my injectors.

3.3 is a great motor!
when opening the hood and engine hot and running look to the left of the engine mounted to the body and see if that is ticking

I will take a look. The noise is coming from the center or intake areas. I could very well be hearing a injector.
