Thumping sound except when braking or speeding up

My wife's 07 Accord SE, 5sp manual & 4 cyl, has started to make a light thumping sound when she is driving at a steady speed. As she accelerates or begins to brake, the sound stops. It starts doing it again as soon as she takes her foot off the brakes or gets back to a steady speed. She mentioned it while it was in for an inspection. They noticed that her front pads are worn but the rotors look good. They were trying to talk her into new pads and rotors to fix the problem. She said no because she knew that I could do the brake job cheaper. I'm going to do the front brake job this weekend since the pads are really worn but it still stops smoothly and quietly. She also said that she is starting to feel it in the steering wheel.

Has anyone had a similar problem? Was it brake related??

Sounds like a tire belt. Tires flex, of course, depending on changes in load...brake vs acceleration.

Yes, sounds like tires. Firestones by chance? Had the same issue with my 99 Accord. Had an alignment done at the dealer and put some new tires on. Problem solved.

Thanks Folks. I didn't think of that... She is actually due for new tires soon. She has the factory original tires on right now. I'm not sure what brand they are. (They lasted this long because she runs snow tires in the winter.)
