I just got curious to see what my closest Marshalls had today and there were some interesting finds although I didn’t buy them. Actually saw some Reyn Spooner full button shirts for $24.99 where I think MSRP is about $120 and still listed as new on the Reyn Spooner website. The tags said $35 comparable value, but I know that’s not even close. Most were in my size (L) too although one style only had XL. The big caveat was that they were collegiate licensed for UCLA and Florida State. Seemed a bit out of place for a location in the San Francisco Bay Area, especially Florida State.
Cheap Hawaiian shirts from a premium brand? Sign me up! Time to visit Goodwill. I have been looking for a high end cassette player, would be nice to get a Nakamichi Dragon for $35
Decided to have a look at a different Goodwill location. Seemed kind of random what they had. For Aloha-type shirts, most seemed kind of random. Any number of weird brand names trying to look the part. I was hoping for one of the big names like Kahala, Reyn Spooner, Go Barefoot, Paradise Found, or Hilo Hattie. I'd say Tommy Bahama is kind of controversial as it going for a similar style but their relationship with Hawaii is non-existent.
But then something caught my eye - this black shirt. More dressy than I normally wear. Then I saw the label - Tori Richard, which is a big Hawaiian brand. I think I got one of theirs' before, but bought it used and it eventually had a rip in the fabric. But this was nice even though it was made in Indonesia. 100% cotton, but the weave is extremely heavy. I could tell it was new, but had its manufacturer's tag removed. Not bad for $6.99. Asked at the checkout and it was confirmed that this was a new item donated by the manufacturer, although the clerk was unfamiliar with the brand. I think he could tell by handing it. When I got home I looked up the manufacturer and it doesn't look like they've used this label in a while, but the design looks pretty timeless.
